My review of Trump's presser from yesterday:

Trump is an infantile racist pig. ("Ask China!")

Here's an exact transcript of another part of the presser:

Masked Reporter: "What crime exactly are you accusing president Obama of committing?"

Trump: "Obamagate! It's been going on for a long time. It's been going on from before I even got elected and it's a disgrace that it happened. Some terrible things happened and it should never be allowed to happen in our country again.

Masked Reporter: "What is the crime you're accusing him of committing?"

Trump: "You know what the crime is. The crime is very obvious to everybody, all you have to do is read the newspapers — except yours."

I assume he meant either being president while black or while a democrat.

"And, worse, Trump's personal vanity and political efforts to project a return to business as usual mean he will not extend the same protection (wearing a mask) that he demands of co-workers. The Post reports: "Most White House officials will be asked to wear masks or face coverings in public spaces on complex grounds, a move to prevent the novel coronavirus from spreading further inside the presidential compound . . . .The request does not apply to offices, however, and President Trump is still unlikely to wear a mask or face covering, aides say." In other words: Trump gets protection from others but will not protect them in return for utterly selfish reasons. No single action better captures Trump's narcissism."

Of course, there are some, as we see here, who happily fawn over the narcissist.

Obviously he's reverting to his oldest trick, Birtherism, to please his base and bond with them in racist hatred of Obama.

ANd indeed the way he treated the reporter shows that a similar play is being devised for people with Asian background.

I can't govern for shit, but, man, can I tweet!

Trump's tweets are a strategy of distraction to obscure a policy of abdication

'"In the fourth month of the greatest crisis of his presidency, Donald Trump issued 126 tweets or retweets during a single Sunday.

Other than claiming "great marks" for handling the pandemic — and praising Vice President Pence for praising himself — there was very little on covid-19. Mother's Day got two mentions. The president attacked CNN's Brian Stelter, and NBC's Chuck Todd and ABC's Jimmy Kimmel. He praised the new head of the Chicago police union and touted the reopening of his Los Angeles golf course.

But most of all, Trump extrapolated the "framing of Michael Flynn" into a deep state plot to destroy his presidency conducted by the FBI, intelligence officials and President Barack Obama. The president now calls this "OBAMAGATE!" and charges his predecessor with the "biggest political crime in American history." Trump made his case, in part, by retweeting QAnon conspiracy accounts. And he spread the threatening meme: "HOPE YOU HAD FUN INVESTIGATING ME. NOW IT'S MY TURN."'

"Previous attempts at more conventional crisis communications failed badly, and revealingly. Recall when Trump tried to give a speech to the nation in March outlining his pandemic response. His remarks were rhetorically flat, poorly delivered, riddled with factual errors and entirely unequal to the moment. As is often the case, a failure of presidential communication revealed a series of deeper, more substantive failures. In the midst of a crisis, the Trump White House could not even produce a middling speech because its policy process is nonexistent; because Trump has chosen morally and intellectually mediocre White House advisers; because the president has no respect for the power of words and is incapable of public empathy or inspiration. And when Trump was given a format better suited to his style — his daily novel coronavirus task force briefings — he regularly revealed profound and disturbing ignorance.

In light of these limitations, a tweetstorm solidifying the hatred and conspiracy thinking of Trump's core supporters must seem an attractive alternative."

So Trump didn't know about the transfers but also knew about Deripaska. Makes sense.

McConnell was the main mover in getting Deripaska off the shit list. Trump has met Deripaska, in Russia.

Quote from: Dowder on May 12, 2020, 09:18:04 AMYou're pretty much the only one telling me there is evidence for conspiracy and coordination.

But I didn't tell you that. You should read more carefully. I said collusion and coordination.

Quote from: Dowder on May 12, 2020, 09:18:04 AMNone of the other sources I've from either the left ir right say as much.
From what I've gathered, you've been a rather poor interpreter of the MR because of your TDS. I get you hate Trump and want him gone but at least retain some objectivity.

So you're judging my interpretation of a document you haven't read? What you've "gathered" is bullshit and worthless speculation

As I understand it, the "crime" was suggesting to the DOJ (via a conversation with Sally Yates, the Deputy AG) that Trump's Russian connections might need looking into.  [Which Obama seems to have done]. In Trumpworld, this means Obama ordered the FBI to "spy on a political enemy".

"President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia," national security adviser Susan Rice wrote in an unusual email to herself about the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, FBI Director James Comey and Vice President Joe Biden."

Given that there was substantial reason to think that Trump, Flynn, and possibly others on Trump's team were deeply compromised by, and/or deeply in debt to, the Putin regime, that was just common sense.

The only way you dismiss legitimate criticism of someone or some particular issue is to play the race card.

You've got to be kidding. I'm playing the race card?

The reality is Trump's nr 1 attraction for his base is a hitherto unprecedented play on racist tropes.

Your game (copying the Trump playbook of projection and mirroring) is accusing the guy who points this out (as everyone has been doing) of playing the race card.

Trump's excuse is he's pathological narcissist (projection is an automatic narcissist strategy). You want to join him there?

Poor Mike Flynn.  It's a Deep State witch hunt.

He just may have to wait for Trump's post-election day flurry of pardons to find justice.

In the midst of a pandemic, Trump is obsessing over Michael Flynn

"President Trump's supporters are tired of the attention given to the novel coronavirus pandemic. I hear this from my email inbox and see it on the websites catering to those voices. I find this odd, given that the president frequently assures us that his leadership during this public health crisis has been exemplary, 10 out of 10, the best in the world. And don't take his word for it; Vice President Pence and deputy president Jared Kushner agree."
