The new erato

I've been watching this recently

so last night I sprung for the real thing

Dr. Dread

On the workout:

Elvis Costello - Armed Forces

CD Baby sent me an e-mail saying new Petty Booka had arrived so naturally I got them.

Tokyo Bluegrass Honeys

Fujiyama Mama

Resulting in the following conversation with friend.

Me:  "Great two more Petty Booka albums!"

Them: "Don't you have four of them already?"

Me: "Yup, leading to a 50% increase in my music collection's overall Petty Booka-ness!"

Them: "Freak!"

I can't resist their strange ukulele playing & duet singing covers of everything (punk, rock, country, etc.) Even despite the fact that the current Petty Booka is not the original*.

One member left and was replaced, then the remaining original left and was replaced as well.  Leaving no original members!

Me too. I hold Cat Stevens in higher regard, but Jackson is sure up there.

Have you seen him live?  I've seen him with band twice, and on his last solo acoustic tour.  I actually enjoyed the solo gig the most.  It was pretty cool at one of the band gigs though when Bonnie Raitt walked out, entirely unbilled  :o

I have never seen him live. Never saw Cat live either.

I never saw Cat either, although I only got into him a few years ago.  JB live is highly recommended, as are the solo acoustic CD's he brought out recently (two volumes I think - I just have Vol. 1).

I asumed the sound on those would be loud, but they're OK?

I was worried about that too, but Vol. 1, at least, is excellent.  Mastered by Doug Sax  8)

If ranking all Beatles and solo Beatle albums together, I would put this in the top two or three.  This is almost as good as The Beatles (The White Album) for me.  1970:

Definitely.  I think a number of George's solo albums are some of the best of all the post Beatles albums.

I think Lennon-McCartney as a team moderated each other excesses and they complemented each other well.  And for both of then, their solo albums seemed to (while really being good at times) often fly off into their own  excesses now they were freed of the other and the demands of having to sound like a "group" song.

But I think George really got to blossom and grow as a songwriter post Beatles.

I saw him open for Traffic in 1970 at Philadelphia's Academy Of Music-just him and Alun Davies.

Cat.

I caught Jackson from a first row seat at the Tower Theater in 1975 with Phoebe Snow opening.

Man, what a double bill! Two of my very favorites!

Of course, for me to have seen the show, it would have to have been after September second. (I was born that year)  ;D
