The one thing that you need to keep in mind here, other than the incredible talent, is how old she was when she wrote this stuff.

Yes, I read that on the qobuz side notes while listening, written mostly at 15, recorded at 16 and 19. Just incredible... I think her discography will be quite a trip  :)

Buckle up and enjoy.

Are you OK with the voice [you know how you are in that department  ;D]?

greg

Really been into this album, even did a cover of one of the songs... can't believe it's almost been a year ago.

Well, for now this really works. It is a massive wallop like the first time i heard Joni Mitchell's Blue. Way up there.

I'll have to space out the other albums and the replays of that one not to spoil the effect. I just want to press replay on so many tracks right now. Best blind spot off my explorations to date.  0:)

Just read that Peter Green passed away today (beginning of Fleetwood Mac for those of you who might not know).  Sorry to read it.

A seminal recording.
+1

As for KB I've always liked this album:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Well that is a great relief indeed. Had it not been so, you would have deserved a slap across the ear with a wet fish. As it is you have avoided that ignominy  ;D

BTW, to the best of my now fading memory, I believe that we have David Gilmour [Pink Floyd] to thank for this as I think I remember that he gave her the money to finance the album.

A first listen to the new Gillian Welch :

Keep that wet fish on the ice for now...
It might come in handy when I eventually get to the Incredible String Band or Fairport Convention :P

Oh, I have absolutely no expectations there whatsoever, particularly with the Incredible String Band. I have ploughed a lonely field there since the early 1970s. In all those years I have only come across one other person who had an appreciation for them and he too was an acoustic guitarist.  :(

That is fine with me though. I think they were an exception talent and I still listen to and enjoy them, obviously. You will probably throw that wet fish in my direction when you eventually do hear them.  ;D
Therefore, don't put them high on your list  ;)

What's the best album to try ? I remember some mentions of "The Hangman's beautiful daughter" in some magazines...

You know, I've never heard that album Jeffrey.  I see that it was released after her long absence from music; all of the recordings which I do own of hers are from the pre-break era.  Think that I have all of them?  Do you have any of those?  And, if so, any favorites?

Please forgive the interference but I could not see your videos and I was keen to do so as I was a big fan back in the day of the very talented Peter Green  :)

He had vanished by the time I had corrected them  ;D

Classic Incredibles albums are:

The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion
The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter
Wee Tam
The Big Huge
Changing Horses

The albums contain long, rambling autobiographical songs but I like them. I especially like the musicianship. Now that I think about it, perhaps they are just musicians' musicians as they say.
Disclaimer notice: I am an ageing hippy after all  8)

However, if you really do want to test your mettle, I would recommend that you start with The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion because that contains the only two songs that you might possibly have ever heard of from in their entire discography.  ;D

No interference at all, my laptop struggles with flash I'm afraid. Just to say I agree completely about PG, a very talented musician whose music often seems to have something of the 'Es muss sein' about it.
