It's that Million Dollar Bash!

Looking forward to next month's Bootleg Series release, Simon? Going for the 2, 6 or 18CD option?

*sigh* I'm on a very strick no-buy at the moment, being pretty much broker than I've ever been this year, in fact I've had to sell a fair amount of stuff.

Luckily I know two or three Dylan fans as enthusiastic as myself, and hopefully one willy get the 18cd thing and let me borrow it. (though I see its limited to 5000 copies)

Wasn't aware there was to be a 2 and 6 option.

How about you?

ibanezmonster

Ok. Found the most evil, dissonant music I've ever heard. Which is saying a lot, considering what I listen to.

The experimental black metal band, Portal.

Also on a pretty strict no buy, but this is my favorite period of Dylan, my favorite 3 albums of his. The 18CD is insanely priced, which I am grateful for, as I can't even consider it. I think I will likely get the 6CD, as it seems to be pretty comprehensive and will go for around $100 on release day. I wish they had done a 3 or 4 CD set, compiling just the complete takes. As it stands, the 2CD looks to be not enough and the 6CD seems too much.

Heh. That third disc  is excessive, though I guess the company and many fans will see that as the big drawcard.

I've never understood the fuss over that song. It is, for me, an amazing take - a lightning in a bottle, stars in alignment moment in the studio (I've heard a few of the other misfires from that session) - rather than a great piece of songwriting. I mean its just a sour grapes song isn't it? She's riding around with other boys and now he's looking forward to the day when she gets dumped (the way she dumped him, I assume). Charting the evolution to that moment is no doubt interesting, but I would have left that to the 18cd edition.

I've noticed also that its one of his few songs where every live performance, official or otherwise, sounds (to me, imo) like filler, or a lesser moment from each of those concerts.

It's often listed as his all-time greatest song. I dunno...for me its not even the third best song on that one album.

I note there's only the album take of "Maggie's Farm" on the 18cd set. That's a pity, because its the one track I always skip on the otherwise stunning Bringing album, and it would have been interesting to edit together a disc with an alternate version.

Then live Newport 1965 version on Bootleg Series 7 crushes the album version like a grape, IMO.

Sometimes, I enjoy music simply because it's fun. No thinking involved.

As Eddie Vedder once said, I don't wanna think, I wanna feel!

Nice album, sanantonio! The more I hear Sly, the more i love him!

I found music to be infinitely more fun once thinking entered the experience. That mindless jive just wasn't cutting it.

OK, before I begin posting just wanted to say sorry for saying I didn't like all American people on the forum before. There are people from the US here like MI, Bogey, George, Gurn and quite a few more who I really like and respect so I shouldn't have made a blanket statement like I did.

Anyway, Im not much interested in the politics of the forum as Im just here to read about music and post what Im enjoying listening to at the moment.

Todays listening:

Still going strong with my recent interest in Australian rock music (about 6 weeks so far).

Feeling like something a bit more relaxed and ambient this afternoon:

Out of all BOC's full albums I listen to this one the least - I still think its a great album though (the others just capture my imagination a bit more).

I've been listening to a few tracks from an upcoming Bob Dylan release in his Bootleg Series. This release will feature alternate takes, false starts and rehearsals from his Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde albums. An 18CD is being sold exclusively by BobDylan.com and on November 6th, a 6CD and 2CD version will get released commercially. I can't wait!

The soundtrack to the universally reviled Sgt Pepper film

Whoever is playing drums is making Ringo sound like a great drummer by comparison. And Peter Frampton doing "A Little Help From My Friends" is making Ringo sound like a great singer by comparison.

Cheesy and soulless.

From wikipedia: "...the release made history as being the first record to "return platinum", with over four million copies of it taken off of store shelves and shipped back to distributors."
