We have arrived at the 8th qualifying round with another outstanding group of 20 works for string quartet.  As with the previous rounds, the 3 works ending up with the highest scores will advance to the final round.

Voting Rules:

1.  You may vote once daily.

2.  When you vote, you will have 10 upward points to distribute as you wish except that no work may receive more than 5 points.

3.  Round Eight ends with the first work to reach 100 points.

4.  The Half-Time Adjustment is in force.  With the first work to garner 50 points, the 8 having the lowest scores will be terminated.

This round contains what I consider my most favorite works in the meduim, Beethoven Op 127 and Mozart KV590. But if I support them, will I get sniping for sabotaging Schoenberg and Webern? Nope, I'm done.

All I can tell you is that I don't tolerate negative or disparaging comments about the works or the motivation of voters in my games.  Anyone making such comments will get a warning; if it happens a 2nd time, that person's future votes on the game in question will be voided.

Please come back Baron Scarpia - I consider your participation very important.  Also, I feel like you are penalizing me for stuff that happened on a different game that I was not running.  You are also penalizing yourself, because I know you enjoy the games.

This is a really fine list.  There are plenty of works of a modernist nature and a few wonderful quartets of a traditionalist bent such as the Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart and Taneyev quartets.  For me, the best of all is the Zemlinsky String Quartet no. 2 which has a foot in the door of both environments.

My thoughts exactly. The 4 you named are among my favorites, as is the Borodin and the Zemlinsky. This game sucks. ;)

I listened to the Zemlinsky Second Quartet for the first time this evening. (The only Zemlinsky quartet I have heard until now is the 4th.) It is a dense and intricate work which will take me more than one listen to come to terms with, but there is some impressive music there.
