PS My impression now hasn't changed much from my initial response to this recording, many years ago: the repertoire sounds lovely but is in general musically just not that interesting...

I did not know that recording, will eventually check it out.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Dutch Cello Sonatas.
Volume VIII.
See back cover for details.
Recorded:2018, Konzerthaus der Abtei, Marienmünster.

Until now there are 8 volumes in this series, and since I was recently impressed with the composer Witte, I readily turned to this interesting series, and have put all volumes in my Library on Qobuz. It promises to be a interesting journey, of which I had no idea it existed. Volume 8 holds two works by Georg Hendrik Witte, and they delight me at the very first notes. Witte is a underrated composer who deserves a tad more attention. Wouter Hutschenruyter, is also an unknown composer to me. It clearly goes to show how little I know about the Dutch musical heritage. But it must also be said that the Dutch do little to promote themselves, and that is probably the reason I never had an inkling about these recordings.
The performances are really good by artists also unknown to me, and it has SOTA sound. Really worth ones while to explore.

I had the first two volumes, but the third volume was OOP. Qobuz remedied that. So a first.

This seems to
Invoke old forms, with a chorale, a fugue, and what strikes me as a arietta. Beautiful.

Schönberg Erwartung
Krenek Symphonic Elegy
Schönberg Verklarte Nacht

So a Schönberg work I don't particularly care for (sorry, it just doesn't work for me) together with the one Schönberg work I really like, and in the middle a work (the Krenek) I've never heard before).

I will have to look into the Krenek piece.

Oddly the streaming version doesn't include verklarte nacht, which is not in the cover art. I guess it is organized differently in the CD set.

Symphonic Addict

Three string quartets by three different composers: Martin, Elgar and Ysaÿe

The Martin is the best piece to my ears, followed by the Ysaÿe which is an arrangement by Jacques Ysaÿe, the composer's grandson. The Elgar, however, sounded less cohesive and without much direction in the first two movements. It's in the 3rd movement where I felt things went better.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Tight refers to the composition or the performance?
