Cool, Rafael! I recall the 3rd Symphony Facetter being quite an interesting work in a rather dark, "gritty" style without being overly harsh or off-putting. I should pay more attention to this composer.

Very good playing and sound. Geminiani Quinta Essentia (Concerti Grossi Op.2,3,and 7) played by Concerto Köln.

Wrote you a PM Jeffrey, in which I explained, a week or so ago.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Well no, I don't agree. If people with cloth ears can't tell the difference, that doesn't mean there's no difference.

And frankly, various things in my life have led me to believe that quite a lot of people have cloth ears. They are the largest part of the market. And probably were in the 18th century.

Well, works for me. Let's just agree to disagree and move on --- all the more so as there are much more things we agree, than we disagree, upon.  :-*

I just hope you don't think I have cloth ears...  :P

Well, no, I don't agree. I even contend that people back then in the 18th century had a more close and meaningful relationship with music than we have today.

Heck, we can today listen to, and "scientifically" compare, how many versions of Haydn's 88th? Ten, twenty, fifty?

Back then, for most of the audience, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience...

Just imagine, hearing Haydn's 88th once and for all?

The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there...

See, but now you're just explaining that the reason charlatan publishers could get away with swapping composers is because the audience didn't have a lot of chance to catch them out with repeat listens.

I hate to interrupt this bitch-slapping session, but this is very good:

Meanwhile, in Spain and in the present day, listening to a favourite work: Atlàntida by Manuel de Falla and Ernesto Halffter. Vocal soloists, Nuestra Señora del Recuerdo Children's Choir, Spanish National Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos.

The cover of the original LP release is much more adequate:

« Et n'oubliez pas que le trombone est à Voltaire ce que l'optimisme est à la percussion. »

Madiel

I don't know what bitch-slapping is supposed to mean.

Now, about the order of movements in Mahler's 6th...zzz

Well, yes... if they did like it there and then, it was good... if I like it here and now, it's equally good...

Do I make A/B/C/D/Etc comparisons, let alone scientific such ones? Absolutely not. Did Prince Eszterhazy make A/B/C/D/Etc comparisons, let alone scientific such ones? Absolutely not.

Just a little suggestion: do not start with the choral 9th which could put you off given that it's the most "austere" of the bunch.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Interesting, because in my case those symphonies were love at first hearing.

You must listen to at least five hundred recordings of Beethoven's sonatas before you can embark on such scientific endeavors. ;)

I have never ever listened comparatively in my whole life... What I like I like, what I dislike I dislike... When it comes to "classical music", my philosophy is "Live and let live!"

Well, kinda. You don't miss the opportunity to make some ironic and malicious comments whenever the name Wagner appears on GMG.  ;D
