Purcell: Theatre Music - Christopher Hogwood conducting The Academy of Ancient Music, The Taverner Choir & Soloists - Disc 2 (listened to Disc 1 yesterday). Probably best listened to in batches otherwise the orchestral music tends to all sound the same after a while. So far enjoyed Disc 2 (Bonduca and Circe ) more than the contents of the first disc.

Karlheinz Stockhausen: Punkte. Péter Eötvös, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln

This is quite an accessible work for Stockhausen; I think it's early. Very spacious, sumptuous sounds. Given a great performance from Eötvös, a conductor I always enjoy—I need to check out some of his own music as a composer.

I've been revisiting that tasty box this week, myself!

Moroney's Byrd set is a treasure trove that keeps on giving every time I return to it.  :)

Handel: Water Music Suite [Szell]

This is Big Band Handel, if you like it. The suites are condensed into one performance suite, comprising about twenty minutes of music, so it is not the complete music or indeed a complete suite. The Brass sound very well indeed but the overall presentation is a tad too saccharine for me.

Perhaps less impressive than the previous recording by the Speculum Ensemble, but still very nice.

Yes, I can understand why some people do not like narration in symphonic works. The tenth is such a lively affair.

Both works are excellent IMO.
