I love that recording, but the cover art is treading dangerously close to "Worst looking CD/LP artwork" territory...pink tone and unflattering depiction of Grumiaux on the left.
Surely not as bad as this one which features that great conductor Eduard Van Beinum clearly struggling with a hot potato in his mouth:

Interesting to hear that. I thought that veteran members like you and others tended to regard compilation albums a little less favorably.
I think that all the pieces are by Lundquist (I may be wrong). I enjoyed the First Symphony as well.

I haven't heard the Belohlavek recordings, but glad that you're enjoying them.  I have the set with Neumann and also a wonderful recording of No. 4 with Turnovsky on Supraphon.  :)
Oh, interesting!  How did you happen to meet/know the nephew?
Oooh!  That does look like a yummy set Irons!  I have some of his recordings...like you, I love that Franck recording and have it on an Eloquence CD of French and Belgian violin sonatas.

I'll have to revisit his music.  Some years ago, I purchased his "Seven Last Words from the Cross" but haven't played it since.  Poking around upstairs, I did run across a CD that I had found used for a good price which I need to check out.  It's a recording of his second symphony along with a couple of other works on BIS.

PD
I hadn't made that much of his music before PD and the 4th Symphony was revelatory - I'd tend to listen to that one and if you enjoy it go on to the equally rewarding 5th Symphony, which I had the good fortune to hear live.

Eloquence makes very smart selections, what you get is the essential bit of Grumiaux's recordings.

A few weeks ago in the New Releases thread, this image came in for a bit of criticism:

So - to answer that question in this case -
"The album's artwork is specially created by the internationally renowned graphic artist and book designer Christoph Niemann, who regularly illustrates for "The New Yorker" and "The New York Times". His illustration for "On DSCH" offers a playfully abstract counterpart to this musical experience."  (quoted frrom Presto's website)

This was one of my earliest classical LPs - given to me by a school friend when we were both discovering classical music:

He's about 50 years too late for that to be tasteful.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

I hope that you enjoy it and I would be interested to read your thoughts when you eventually get to listen to and see it.
Very enjoyable!  Do you happen to know when that recording was from Fergus?  I noticed that it was on Italian t.v.

I love her recording of Elgar's cello concerto.  :)

To paraphrase something RVW said when asked if he would choose after dying to return to life as a composer - *Jackie du Pré does not play music, she is music.*
Neat quote Irons!  ;D

And thanks for that suggestion Jeffrey (which I currently can't find!); I'll check and see if I can find his fourth symphony online.

I have no problem with this cover, the cover with van Beinum is almost an insult. ;)
