Nicolas Gombert.
Motets III.
Beauty Farm.
CD I.
Pater Noster a 4.
Ascipe Domine, a 4.
Duo Rogavi te domine a 6.
Inviolate integra et Casta a 5.
Stabat Autem Petrus, a 5.
Caecilliam cantate pii, a 5.
Ne Reminiscaris, a 5.
O, Rex Gloriae, a 6.
Respice Domine, a 5.

I played all the discs Beauty Farm recorded save one, which I did not like, and am happy to tell that the recordings are a great enrichment as to the music and my understanding of how flexible Renaissance music can be performed. All excellent singers and recorded in a friendly way, it will be on my musical menu on a regular basis. Gombert III is caressing my senses now, and it transports me beyond spheres which I never deemed possible, that's a great result in my book. Great performances and awesome artwork, that sums it up.

I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Cyril Scott: Cello Concerto
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

That Gombert motets series by Beauty Farm is really nice!  :) Though I still have to order that 3rd volme.

Adaptations for two harpsichords - stuff I can revel in.  :)

Oh, I do miss the small record outlet in my city that closed down shortly before the pandemic. Due to predatory rent prices they couldn't make ends meet. I miss the the thrill of almost daily surprise bargains and charm of buying stuff I normally wouldn't seek out but absolutely loved on many occasions. This recording is one of those.

The new erato

I've been on a Nordic streak, playing Sibelius songs from the complete Decca set (such an underrated song composer) and Nielsen chamber musc form the Dacapo set - wonderful recording quality and many fine musical surprises. Fully intend to play both sets straight through.

I should revisit that set. And I recently discovered the songs of Edvard Grieg - very pretty!  :)

Joseph Haydn.
Complete Symphonies.
CD VIII.
No. 9/12/13.
The Academy of Ancient Music, Christopher Hogwood.

I keep marveling and reveling in these recordings. I might not always agree to the somewhat slow and strict tempi in the minuets but as to the performances its a A plus. I intended of playing the whole set this year, but due to unforeseen circumstances that will not happen, but I will do my best to play as many in 2022 as  I possibly can.

Classical recordings were never cheap, but Fra Bernardo and Aeolus take the cake... The Gombert motets vol.3 came on the market for €35... a little wait usually saves me at least €10.

I know, life is short... but plenty of other stuff to buy & listen to.  8)

The new erato

I think I got it from presto at the equivalent of 20 Euros, including Norwegian VAT.

At JPC its 29.95, wait until there is free postage. Saves you another 2,99. It is not likely though that the Gombert motets will come any cheaper. But granted the Fra Bernardo and Aeolus discs are pretty expensive. But then again all good things in life come at a price.

No duties, just VAT, which presto collects on sending on behalf of Norway, so it goes directly into my mailbox without further delays and costs.

The new erato

The last disc with Tinctoris/Barbignant cost me NOK 204,32, equal to 19 Euros. Norwegian VAT included. + P+P which is rather negligible as part of a larger order.
