I didn't know there was an opera called "Tony." According to the booklet notes, it's about a guy who runs a pizza restaurant in New Jersey.

Methinks I might get a few more next time there's another Supraphon sale on Qobuz.

That's a joke, isn't it?  :D

So it was as good of a journey as we promised?  :)

I can readily understand that. Supraphon is one of my favourite lables because the produced much fine music and music making. If I was exploring something new to me it is still a label that I would explore to see if they has a production of what I was looking for.

Definitely Brian.

Kabelac's Mystery of time is my pick of a very good and entertaining bunch (i played this piece several times).

Only Martinu's 5th today left me nonplussed. Not sure what to make of "Alexander Nevsky" right now either  ;D

All the rest I have enjoyed on way or an other.

Hi Fergus,
Quite, some past fine pointers of yours (Jiranek, Reichenauer) are other examples of Supraphon recordings that are fully enjoyed in these headphones :)

I am pleased that you remembered those examples, Olivier. They are particularly fine examples of what I was discussing.

I have added it on my opera long list, thank you. I don't think I have finished Rosenkavalier yet as far as strauss is concerned. I haven't dared approaching Salome or Elektra either  ???    ;D

An easy work to botch.  Based on this recording, this young guy is the real deal.  Fabulous recording and playing by the OSM.

Reicha: Quintet in F maj. Op. 107 [Francis/Allegri String Quartet]

The music is quite robust but lyrical in the opening movement and it is assertively played by all here. The movement finishes with a fine flourish.
The slow movement is wonderfully lyrical and it is elegantly played here.
The Scherzo is an animated affair and it is played with the appropriate drive and energy. The Trio section is suitably contrasting and charming.
The final movement is buoyant and ebullient and it is played with both
vigour and charm.

I posted in the new recordings a new release of Bacewicz music for String orchestra on the label DUX, the samples sound magnificent.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

I am just discovering her music more in depth for the first time.  I'm astounded at its magnificence!

It's like, 30 years or more since I heard it but I remember enjoying the recording very much, especially Schoeffler. The opera was a great favourite of mine, much more so than its role model -- The Magic Flute -- has ever been.
