Should have just got the Maggini Naxos box set?  Unless you already have most of these individually.  NB:  I was absolutely floored recently hearing Bax's first string quartet.

I ended up doing the same.  Has to be one of the best recordings of that symphony!

Yes, I have a lot of Maggini discs from Naxos, although I didn't do a careful cost analysis to see if the box is still worth it. I got the Bax discs for cheap and acted reflexively.

Excellent playing and sound.

CD II-Rudolph Garrels Organ, 1734-1739. Oud-Katholieke Kerk s'Gravenhage. No info about Pitch and Temperament.

The Maassluis organ is tuned a=440 and equal temperament.

The temperament of the organ of the Oud-Katholieke Kerk, Den Haag is Kirnberger III. I have not been able to find the pitch.

Do get the Naxos Violin Sonatas and Viola Sonata and other chamber discs too.  If you enjoy the Bax quartets then his other chamber works will appeal too I think....

Thank you Premont. It seems I was right about the Maassluis organ ( 440 Hz, equal temperament), and it was a surprise for me, that the organ in the Oud Katholieke Kerk is Kirnberger III, but that figures, for this organ was brought back to its original state, and I had my doubts already concerning the equal temperament. So I am indebted to you for the info, I could not find this in all the sites I visited. Still looking for the pitch though!
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

I do have the violin sonatas, but not the viola sonata. (I also have a Naxos disc with clarinet sonatas, and a Chandos disc with the Nash Ensemble playing a selection of chamber pieces.)

In terms of orchestral music I have the two symphony cycles on Chandos, and their collection of orchestral music.

Really a "bite-size" symphony, isn't it? Love this performance/recording. Can Petrenko be contemplating a complete cycle?

Easy enough to cue up the only "competition" I have ready to hand ...

Have you seen the Unitel film of Rheingold by Karajan?  It uses audio from a live performance from he Salzburg Festival, which I like better than the studio recording.

Bachtoven

This is a new release on Qobuz today. I like his music--while not exactly hummable (not that music always needs to be so), it's not overly random and abrasive, either.

Quote from: Spotted Horses on May 05, 2023, 05:43:41 AMI managed to listen to the second and third movements over a few days. I found the second movement equally enthralling, although the finale didn't resonate with me to the same extent. A second listen to the music is in order.

I think that you'd like the Quintet for Harp and Strings as well.

Do you mean this one? Of course I've seen it, such a masterful performance, a joy for the soul both musically and visually; that's how Wagner's Ring should be represented, not the falsch und feig staging of the modern Bayreuth. :)
