Prokofiev: Eugen Onegin

Supremely enchanting, but man, there are many spoken parts! It spoilt the enjoyment a big deal.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Todd

As per usual with Batagov, the tempi are slow, very slow.  But not uniquely slow.  Francine Kay goes slower in some individual pieces (and sounds more compelling overall).  Rather, the dynamics are exaggerated in this too closely recorded, um, recording, and Batagov sometimes plays with purposely unsteady rhythm, exaggerated arpeggios, and mushy glissandi.  Yet there's something there.
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Brahms: Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24
Emanuel Ax

Wonderful! I know I've heard these variations before, but I don't think I've listened this closely before. I've enjoyed Brahms a lot this summer.

G. Bush: The two symphonies

These two works inhabit a sound world similar to that of Walton and Alwyn in the 1st and there's a little of Arnold in the 2nd. Most enjoyable I must say.

Seems to be the only Amazon listing with the original cover art.

I'm not sure, but this may be the first time I've ever heard these two symphonies.

I found the festival programme, looks awesome. At least a few concerts, each of which I would love to hear. I even regretted that I didn't know about it earlier. It's not difficult at all to come from Odessa to Bucharest.

Barenboim's Pastoral is a longtime favorite - and a long time playing, at 45 minutes of big-orchestra romantic luxury.

It is always a pleasure to revisit RVW's third symphony!
Painter François Flameng is new to me. Apart from his WW1 work, he made a lot of technically exquisite portraits of the very rich and very famous.

Traverso

Bach

The Allegro ma non Tanto (BWV 1055) is of a rare exuberance, so exquisitely performed by the Leonhard Consort, a classic in my opinion. It always makes the sun shine again in my heart.

This is from the days when some were saying he was the modern Furtwangler. I vaguely remember listening to this set and generally liking it, perhaps including the 4th.
