Hotteterre, Jacques-Martin (1674-1763) - Chamber Music w/ Camerata Köln on the recordings below (4 discs) - his compositions comprise 10 Opus numbers (see attachment - LINK) - edited bio below - he was a seminal figure in the early history of the French flute, not only as a performer and composer, but also as an innovative instrument maker.  Dave :)
P.S. reviews attached, if interested.

QuoteJacques Hotteterre, a.k.a. Le Romain, (1674-1763), was a French musician, composer, writer, teacher, and musical-instrument maker (flutes & musettes). Hotteterre was descended from a distinguished family of woodwind-makers and performers. His nickname, "Le Romain" ("the Roman"), was the result of a journey to Italy. By 1708 Hotteterre was a bassoonist in the Grande Écurie. His first published work, Principes de la flûte traversière (1707), is the first known essay on flute-playing. It also contains instructions for playing the recorder and oboe, as well as the flute, and was an immense success. (Source)

Quote from: Bachtoven on August 25, 2023, 06:23:52 PMExcellent playing and sound (Qobuz 24/176.4), but those freakishly high notes (harmonics?) get a little irritating. People who have lost a lot of upper frequencies in their hearing probably can't hear them at all!

More and more often I think that the some decline in hearing, vision, memory, etc. with age is not really a decline, but an optimisation. Grace.

Yesterday I visited Utrecht on the opening day of its yearly Early Music Festival and attended a 3-concert marathon by the Huelgas Ensemble. So it was clear this morning's choice had to be a recording by them:  :D

Superb Que, wish I had time free on my hands to visit the festival too. but alas. Such is always a treat :)  :)
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

The considerable effort it took to find a decent picture of the cover reminded me of the efforts to actually find and buy this CD. Aaahh... those good old days... the thrill of the chase was half the fun!  ;D

That's settled then, and I opt for a nice round malt, and the next one is on me! ;D
