Stravinsky - Orpheus

Splendid, also the recording, would be in my Top15 Stravinsky ...

An all time classic and, I believe, one of the best selling classical records of all time. I remember when I worked in a record shop in central London back in the day, we had to order in more copies every week.

Absolutely superb, like the other CD completing the Feinberg Piano Sonatas cycle...

How do you find her music?  I'm not familiar with it.

Off to figure out what to play myself on this gray and gloomy day.

It's tuneful and enjoyable, but I find the idea that she was just as gifted as her brother greatly exaggerated.

Clarinet concertos by Hindemith and Holmboe, played by Martin Fröst; by Magnus Lindberg, played by Kari Kriikku.

Symphonic Addict

Johan Halvorsen - Symphonies 1 & 2

Both are amiable but practically nothing substantial. I think the performances have to do with that. Järvi's readings on Chandos are more consistent methinks.
Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

Yes they are!
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Mendelssohn, Felix - String Quartets & Octet - the Emerson SQ perform the Octet by 'double recording' themselves and it works fine!  I'll be keeping both of these SQ groups - Dave :)

Ross Edwards: Symphony 'Da Pacem Domine' - a deeply moving work from 1992 for which, if my memory is correct, I have André of this forum to thank for introducing me to it. It reminds me, in places, of the last part of Allan Pettersson's 7th Symphony:

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

A sprightly and elegant of what has become one of Mozart's most loved Serenades.

What a strange coincidence. That is a favoured CD in my collection. Only yesterday I was pondering whether or not to take it down and put it on my playing schedule. I hope that you enjoyed it.

A first listen, but yes, I can easily see how it could become a favorite.

This CPO orchestral series about Hindemith is something to trove.

Well, unless I'm losing it already, it's the first time I see this composer or that work, so you owe your thanks to another forum member, methink  ;D.
