The Hartmann is a real thrill ride! In terms of energy, the second movement finale brings to my mind the finale of Ginastera's Piano Concerto No. 1.

It sure does. Fantastic work.

Symphony No. 2

My favorite recording of this work. It's one of those pieces that work fantastically good in a slow pace.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

That Reger disc is stupendous.

Hi Todd - like that 'Don Johnson' look - :)

You might have seen my post on Geoffroy Couteau's Brahm's piano box purchased earlier this year - Barry Douglas was my other consideration - did no audio comparisons but read some reviews - not sure why I went w/ Couteau but have enjoyed.  Dave

I've got Couteau as well.  I'll probably have to do some comps among the complete sets in my collection at some point - I also have Oppitz, Katchen, and Klien (probably the best performances; definitely the worst sound) - and so far, ironically enough, Douglas sounds sharper edged than Couteau.  My objective is to find the best complete set among extant complete sets.

Plowright and Rösel would be the strongest contenders I think. Andreas Boyde is also not bad.

Âmes d'enfants

Charming music. Not a strong work but it's undeniable how lovely is.

This cheapo 6 cd set represents excellent value at 7 hours 1/2 of music played by Arrau, Kocsis, Ashkenazy, Bolet, Magaloff, allowing one to appreciate major artists offering different approaches to Chopin. No substitute for complete sets of the mazurkas, préludes, nocturnes etc, but splendid for car listening  8).

What do you think? It's been my favorite Bruckner 7th for many years. Happy to see the Hurwitzer agrees with me  ;D

I like it.  It's a lighter performance than staples like Karajan or Jochum.
