Here's a Christmas-themed program I devised for tonight's listening session:

Bax: Christmas Eve
Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on Christmas Carols

---Intermission---

Britten: A Ceremony of Carols

Encore -

Delius: Sleigh Ride

From these recordings:

Symphonic Addict

A splendid performance of this magnificent work. Lemminkäinen in Tuonela is my favorite movement.

Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

A fantastic work, indeed...

Speaking of fantastic, I'm quite digging this at the moment:

The Alpine Symphony is an old favorite of mine, albeit I don't know that performance.

Listening to the Overture No. 1 on Greek Themes and Overture No. 2. Two of the young Glazunov's hidden gems.

If I don't listen to cantatas more often I'm never going to finish this series. I started this volume in March...

BWV 27

EDIT: Okay, the 1st movement is gorgeous.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Oh, this was an excellent performance, Cesar. Mehta is in his element when conducting Strauss, IMHO.

Maderna - Grande Aulodia.

Sounds interesting Steve, nice love Sandro Gorli Requiem whit Carlo Gesualdo, so I might as well check it out.

But for now I'm slowly sipping Black Stout Beer, not fancy  but better than Guiness,, and listening to The Central Medieval era LP on archiv Produktion Germany, love this heavy hard thick slab of petrol, the media sounds awesome, ah 1951 LP that was a good year for LP  1951-1970 the golden year of vinyl, On side A we get Adaam de La Halle Le jeux de Robim et marion and on side B we get more chanson of ars vetus (so there is an error in the title it's not actually the central medieval era but in reality de la Halle is Ars Vetus prior two stade two ars nova.

Goodnight folks

I was able to listen to only my two favorites, Faust and Magnin, yesterday. I'll finish up today. I guess these quintets are better on oboe. Yes, Brilliant set is on period instruments and it should be released at the end of January, except a couple of streamer download stores made it available yesterday.

Edit: This latest is set from Torres is very good. They play all three opera 17 (Magnin's programme), 19 (Ipata/Auser's HIP) and 55 (Faust's) leaving Rampal's selection of G 437-442 (still not authenticated with certainty) out. Op 19 are very fast compared to Auser without any compromise in other aspects and the liveliness pays well. I find a few of the two-movement quintets ordinary but the rest are very well-established works. I like Magnin and Faust very much and the new set will stand to supplement them and as a replacement for Ipata.

Bernard Foccroulle plays on a Gottfried Silbermann organ, (1710-1740) Freiberg.
Pitch: a= 476 Hz. Temperament, Meantone.

Very satisfying recording of this organ.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Morning listening, a yearly personal traditional, the Medieval Christmas Mass by the Ensemble Organum and Marcel Pérès:

Note that this is not the Christmas Mass with 17th c. Plainchant Parisien recently reissued.
