His playing must be so exciting that he felt asleep listening to himself...   ;D

A strong contender for the worst artcover ever.

I like hearing the string orchestra arrangement, but I definitely prefer the original sextet version these days. Karajan does a fine job nevertheless. This is repertoire he was actually really good in as his other Second Viennese School recordings demonstrate.

It's a beauty, no argument there.

I try to adopt the mindset that the tapes are much quieter than the orchestra due to representing the noise of civilisation heard from a safe distance in the desert.

So thinks Florestan as well.  :)

John Cage - Fontana Mix - Feed rendered by Max Neuhaus. Great - Sony Classical say 10 minutes of feedback is a classical masterwork, I don't need to feel uncultured for enjoying it. >:D

Yes and I think this is one of those rarer works that successfully integrates acoustic instruments and tape.

NP: Varèse Un grand sommeil noir (Delunsch/Chailly)

An early work (comp. 1906) that has an almost Jón Leifs sound-world. Quite interesting.

Mozart, WA - Fortepiano Concertos w/ Viviana Sofronitzki and the Musicae Antiquae Collegium Varsoviense; she plays on a Paul McNulty fortepiano after Anton Walter; McNulty and Sofronitzki are married, and she is the daughter of Vladimir Sofronitsky (1901-1961). My other 'period instrument' recording of these Wolfie works is w/ Malcolm Bilson & Gardiner (last pic below) - have not done any comparisons, but might like Sofronitzki on the fortepiano more and the English Baroque Soloists a little better, so maybe a 'toss up' for me?  Dave :)
