The answer to this is simple: ABSOLUTELY! You can never have too many M6s. Tennstedt, as I wrote earlier, was in his element in front of an audience. Fire and brimstone and all that. Really special performances. I have an M3 from him with the LPO done on the ICA Classics label that is magnificent. If you don't own it, buy it now!

That's my favourite Langgaard CD!

It's a damn fine one, Jeffrey. Without a doubt. :)

As you know, I have no trouble with dissonance, but rather, what a composer does with the dissonance and Diamond's more terse works aren't too interesting, IMHO. Now, Schuman's 9th symphony, on the other hand, is f****** great! I also think highly of Copland's forays into 12-tone music like Connotations and Inscape.

Count me as another huge fan of Schuman! I love all of his symphonies and many other works.

Sampling various live versions of Janáček's Káťa Kabanová, and this one from the Salzburger Festspiele 1998 showed up, apparently AI-enhanced. No idea how this version has improved over the original, but the result is impressive. (Warning: no subtitles.) Cast is great, with Angela Denoke in the title role, and Jane Henschel.

Now playing this stupendous recording:

One of the best M6s I've heard. Thunderous, emotionally-driven performance.

Extremely great performance. The Andante moderato is the best I've ever heard. I'm not ashamed to say it has moved me to tears.

I can't really recommend this too highly. Excellent in every way.

Very nice. A new composer to investigate. Thank you!

From one Mahlerian to another, you should never be afraid. You're amongst your own people here. ;) :D

It really is, Cesar. Powerful performance and you should never be ashamed to admit to music moving you to tears. I have found Mahler is one of those composers who gets to me, too. This is why I'm in some small way indebted to him and to learning as much as I can about his music and his own life.

Indeed not! 8)

Yes, the recordings of Bartok and Kodaly by Dorati sound exceptional!

A rehearsal of the opening of Janáček's Káťa Kabanová from Opera North, conducted by Sian Edwards (with the keyboard player, dead center, checking his phone 8) ). Will definitely be seeking out the entire production.

Very well said, John. There is no anyone like Mahler. Even though his music is recorded quite often, his reputation deserves it.

...but I prefer Mutter's version. I'm not sure what you mean by "much better".

I'm sure you do. Mutter has been described as "killing" Korngold here (not in a good way), which comes to show just how out of tune with the spirit of the work she really is. And to cap things, if memory serves right, she's been placed unnaturally forward in the recording mix as well, but that's not her fault.
