I hadn't listened to this disc for decades, IIRC, and I'm really enjoying it.The Invenzioni (first seven, and then another four) were originally composed for a film (Acciaio, i,.e. Steel) and are excellent (Malipiero at his best IMHO, in his very personal style). The Il finto Arlecchino fragments are delightful (typical, amiable Italian neo-classicism). I still  haven't reached Vivaldiana.

Good evening to you, Karl!

EDIT: Vivaldiana is an enjoyable rescoring  of themes by....you guessed it, Vivaldi!.  :D Sounds like a really pre-HIP recording of baroque music. Nothing to write home about, but pleasant enough.

And now back to the student:

Except for Quadrivium, this is very early Maderna (from the WW2 years). The Piano Concerto (here given in its original version with orchestral accompaniment and in a later reduction for piano duet) is being discussed at the point I'm at in the biography of Maderna I'm reading. It sounds like Hindemith mixed with Bartók, more than like Malipiero, but is certainly an accomplished work (even if we ignore the fact that the composer was aged 22 when he penned it).

I don't really know where to post this question since most of the computer threads are buried in the forum and I'm simply too lazy to look, but is there a way you can change where you get a CD's metadata from? I'm using an Apple Macbook Pro and use their "Music" app for ripping CDs. Thanks to any who can help.

Hi John - we're an Apple house (laptops for me and & iMac for wife) - I have a number of metadata apps on my Mac laptops - take a look at Tag Editor - believe a free DL - hope it does what you need?  Dave :)

Francks - Cesar (1822-1890) & Eduard (1817-1893) - a couple of new arrivals from BRO; of course, no relationship although Eduard did have a composer son, Richard - excellent reviews of Cesar's chamber works attached - cannot find much on the Eduard recording, although I have a LOT of the Francks on Audite and find all quite good.  Dave :)

It's a while since I've listened to that disc myself. I remembered liking it very much overall, and like you, not being overwhelmed by the Vivaldiana.

Hi Karl - well, Jerry Dubins loved both recordings of Cesar's chamber works - I have the same pieces split w/ other composers, so nice to have both on a single disc.  Dave :)

Try another CD ripper, like XLD.

Okay, Dave. Just a follow-up to my previous post, it looks like this is just an editing program and that's it. I'm talking about when I insert a CD into my CD drive, the metadata appears as it gets its information from Gracenote. My question is there another website I designate where I get a CD's metadata from instead of the Gracenote database? My whole point in wondering is I want to do as little editing as possible. Thanks!

Thanks, but I tried this and it's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for an alternative to Gracenote through the Music app on Mac to retrieve metadata. I don't really think another program is the answer.
