Greetings all!  Have been on a classical era kick of late, lots of Mozart and Haydn.  Today's line-up includes:

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

-- William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Hey, buddy!

Howdy!  I've been lurking off and on for ages, just haven't had much opportunity to post -- all is good, recently got a new job at work which takes up way too much of my (formerly) spare time.  Thankfully I'm doing a lot of it from home, so I do get more listening time, though mostly in the background, alas.

Warmest regards to all!

Bruckner Symphony No. 4 Karl Richter Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin

What do you think of Karl Richter's Bruckner?

Now playing:

Ralph Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. Eugene Ormandy, Philadelphia Orchestra

This CD was sent to me by accident some years ago instead of what I really ordered (whatever that was). I'm sure glad I ended up hearing it, because this is one of the greatest Tallis Fantasia recordings I've ever heard. Ormandy and the Philadelphias are right at home in this music. Of course, the Philadelphia string section is world-famous, so excellent string writing like this goes over well for them.

P.S. There's a fairly good chance I'll be moving to Philadelphia in the fall of next year for school. Anyone know anything or have any comments about the current state of the orchestra? I understand Yannick Nézet-Séguin is their music director and has garnered some acclaim, but I've not heard any of his recordings. (The other possibilities for school are Chicago, Boston and New York—great orchestras in each town.)
