Yeah, her performance definitely did not detract from the experience...

Apologies to any not-twelve-year-old-boys who might stumble upon this thread...
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

John Carpenter's The Thing

Oh, is he, now?

I read the story that's based on - Who Goes There? - recently, and it holds up really well.

A good story about diamonds, betrayal and the consequences.

The Thing got some of the worst reviews ever and derailed John Carpenter's career. Another box office failure from that year was Blade Runner.

Mercy Black.
On some level it was enjoyable but overall it just wasn't a good movie. It's probably just due to being a genre that I like (sort of mystery/thriller/horror), but the execution of it was just so miserably awful.

Had it not been for Brewski's enthusiasm, I might never have watched The Thing

The actors on the set were initially a little spooked by the dog, which was actually a wolf-dog hybrid that behaved just like the film showed, silently looking at everyone, brushing up against people, and never barking.

Interesting looking down this list and relative placement, a snapshot of a time and its attitudes:

Last night, The Guilty (Den Skyldige)

It was okay. The acting is quite good. But really, a movie that consists of almost nothing but one man's phone calls (which, for added variety, take place in two neighbouring rooms) didn't come across to me as the claimed taut thriller. Even if he is a policeman working in emergency dispatch.

Apparently an American remake is under consideration.

The amazing story of the Getty kidnapping.

Candyman.

Decent movie but not sure it actually made sense.

Second watch. A good film, but I still don't get how Ryan Gosling became a star - he has no range at all, and here Carey Mulligan run rings around him in demonstrating how a quiet inwardlooking performance can be masterfully done.

Girl on the Third Floor

This horror thriller is the story of a couple who have just bought an old house with a plan to renovate it. What they do not know is that the house has a past. Not compulsive viewing, just OK

Madiel

A Second Chance (En Chance Til in Danish)

At turns shocking, sad and tragic. And yet not entirely depressing. It's well done for what is really quite a bizarre story about parents and children.
