Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) - short summary and comments below - Woody Allen has written over 50 movies (and has directed most of them) - I've seen nearly all of them but own just 4 - our favorite is Annie Hall followed by Hannah and Her Sisters & Manhattan - I'm sure many have their own favorites, especially the early ones?

Marueen O'Sullivan, the 'mother' of the three sisters in the film and the REAL mother of Mia Farrow was of course the Jane in many Tarzan films made w/ Johnny Weissmuller - when the early 30s codes were activated, her outfits became less skimpy (unfortunately -  :laugh:)  Dave

QuoteHannah and Her Sisters is an American comedy-drama film which tells the intertwined stories of an extended family over two years that begins and ends with a family Thanksgiving dinner. The film was written and directed by Woody Allen, who stars along with Mia Farrow as Hannah, Michael Caine as her husband, and Barbara Hershey and Dianne Wiest as her sisters. Hannah and Her Sisters was, for a long time, Allen's biggest box office success, with a North American gross of US$40 million. The film won Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. (Source)

Oh, I think it fine that Marueen O'Sullivan's costume in Hannah and Her Sisters isn't skimpy, Dave :)

Tonight, very excited to see Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) on the big screen. (I missed it the first time around.) The big draw is the print, "Black and Chrome" (basically a black-and-white version), which apparently the director, George Miller, prefers to the original.

My curiosity piqued, I found the "colorized original' at the library.

James Bond Fans? - just over two dozen Bond films have been made from 1962 to 2021 (see list bottom left - Source) - I've seen virtually all except for a few of the Craig portrayls which I'll stream in the near future.  I own 7 of these productions (red circles below) - all are now UHD streaming versions on my Amazon Prime Video account - last two bought and just watched (w/o Susan -  :laugh:) were The Spy Who Loved Me (w/ Jaws!) and Casino Royale.

My purchases were based on the ones I've enjoyed most and on their rankings; unfortunately after perusing nearly a half dozen ranking websites, the lists are quite divergent - so picking just one, i.e. Rotten Tomatoes, the bottom right pic shows their top 4 picks which are in my ownership (at least 'in the cloud); reasons for the others?  Well, the Spy Who... has the beautiful Barbara Bach and the Jaws character played by Richard Kiel; Casino Royale - need at least one w/ Daniel (will I buy more?).  Finally, the Living Daylights, the first of Dalton's two and a Bond and film often rated toward the bottom - BUT, it is my favorite Bond and the one I've watched far more than the others over the years; reasons are many so will not elaborate.  However, will be curious about responses from others as to their favorite Bonds and which films are at the top?  ;D  Dave

I'm delighted, Dave, that you also are such a fan of Living Daylights. Your short list does have me thinking well of The Spy Who Loved Me. I don't often turn the q. in my mind, Which is my favorite Roger Moore Bond movie? While I might not wind up selecting The Spy Who Loved Me, I've got to recognize that it's in my upper tier of R. M. B. movies.

+1 Karl on the Living Daylights - like the story, settings, Dalton as Bond, and Maryam d'Abo as a cellist (so cute & vulnerable, Bond had no choice but to keep her safe -  :laugh:) - NOW, are the remaining Daniel Craig films that good to stream or just full of these stunts involving destruction of mucho property?  ::)

ALSO BIG QUESTION - now that Craig was killed off in his last film, who's going to be the next 'Bond' (white, black, Asian, female, etc?) - some discussion HERE - BTW, I did see that last Craig film, No Time to Die when Susan & 1 met our son/DIL in Knoxville at a rental house w/ a huge screen media room (believe I posted some pics in another thread) - SO, Quantum... & Skyfall are the only two not seen.  Dave :)

Hey, Dave A Quantum of Solace has been (fairly) criticized for the excessive cuts in the opening sequence (which could have been stunning, if we had seen more of it paced less jerkily, but overall I enjoy it, especially for its bookending Casino Royale. Trivially, I very much like the Jack White/Alicia Keys song, "Another Way to Die." I'm a fan, too of both Skyfall and Spectre. Although I've not yet seen the latest, I expect to hunt it down at the Library one of these days.

One For The Money:

I was needing some visual chewing gum; one that did not require a lot of thinking or analysis so I chose this film. This is a sort of take on those sassy, wise cracking PI films. This one is half serious and mildly amusing and filled its role adequately.

I've always thought that Tim Dalton was a rather underrated Bond although Connery remains my favourite. I also like Thunderball more than most and You Only Live Twice has the best theme tune (Nancy Sinatra).  :)

So moving

That does look like a great film - I didn't realize Timothe Chalamet played the boy, he's quite good.  Will add this to my list when I'm in the mood for crying.

I just saw Underwater and quite enjoyed it - for those who like confined monster movies.  The downside being not much interest in character building, the movie is purely scares and intense running.  I'm rarely in the mood for something so shallow but love HP Lovecraft and the ocean so this hits on those tropes.

Yes love Bond...James Bond.  The early ones are so much fun with gorgeous women, career defining 007, awesome villains and muscle men who get outwitted at the end.  Great fun.  Plus let's not forget the brilliant music and songs.  I haven't seen some of the latest ones, they just get a lot heavy on something I remember as quite fun.  Good film making, just not that enjoyable to experience but high quality films.  The ones I haven't seen are:
* On Her Majesty's Secret Service (but love the score)
* Live and Let Die
* No Time to Die

Gentleman Jim (1942) w/ Errol Flynn as James Corbett, who defeated the 10-year world champion John L. Sullivan in 1892 - the fight went 21 rounds!  This is my favorite Flynn film after the earlier swashbucklers - Errol Flynn (1909-1959) made about 60 movies - I own just 5 - this one plus earlier films: Captain Blood, Adventures of Robinhood, Sea Hawk & Dodge City - now, I've seen many more and may consider a few additions as better streaming versions are released, e.g. Objective Burma - BUT for those not familiar w/ this originally Tasmanian actor, try Robinhood first - Dave :)

ADDENDUM: for those interested in rankings, here is one (of many) LIST considered his top 10 films (my 5 made it! -  8))

QuoteGentleman Jim was directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Errol Flynn as heavyweight boxing champion James J. Corbett (1866–1933; 2nd pic below)). The supporting cast includes Alexis Smith, Jack Carson, Alan Hale, William Frawley, and Ward Bond as John L. Sullivan (1858-1918; 3rd pic). The movie was based upon Corbett's 1894 autobiography, The Roar of the Crowd. The role was one of Flynn's favorites. Errol Flynn did all of his own boxing stunts in the film, and although production was shut down for a time after Flynn suffered a mild heart attack, he came back and finished the picture without ever using a double. Just saw this standup special. Some good stuff, but I like other newer comedians like Normand and List more.

Not sure if this has been mentioned here yet but there's a new movie coming out called TAR by Todd Field (In The Bedroom, Little Children).

Synopsis: Set in the international world of classical music, the film centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer/conductors and first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra.

Trailer is below, for us collectors checkout 0:10-0:20 for quick but fun views of some classic records. And it's great use of Caroline Shaw's music.
TAR is getting rave reviews at the moment.
