I hope it doesn't mean I'm a Bad Person if I have no interest/curiosity in Burton's remake....

I suspect I saw the Burton one in the cinema, but I remember practically nothing about it. (whereas I like Burton's Alice in Wonderland)

I do know I strongly disliked the recent Wonka film that came out last year.

I make no promises. I just know that it works for me. ;)

(I have not seen the sequel, though.)

Shoot 'em Up. Pure. Unadulterated. Fun. An adrenaline kick, with three perfect castings.

@Karl Henning and @NumberSix Out of curiosity, I googled Aston Martin DB5 and found out (unsurprisingly) they didn't make that many of them:  1,059 between 1963 and 1965 and it looks like they made an extremely small run of 25 cars in 2020.

My Stepmother Is An Alien (Richard Benjamin, 1988)

I bought this Arrow Blu-ray because I thought it could be a cosy and entertaining 80s flick. Back in the day I ignored this kind of movies as total garbage. Nowadays I can appreciate the 80s nostalgia. They haven't made movie like this for decades!

This movie seemed quite promising (I watched some clips on Youtube). My expectations were somewhat high. While the movie is not bad, it did not fully meet my expectations. For me it failed to reach its full potential for a few reasons. The first problem was this movie took nothing seriously. For example the spaceship of the aliens is ridiculously stupid. This movie had fairly large budget (about $20 million) and John Dykstra worked on special effects. They could have made the spaceship look much much better, but they chose to make it look as silly as possible. For me this didn't make the movie funnier. It made the movie worse! The funny stuff in the movie would have hit harder against a more serious background. Now everything in the movie is silly and it is not even clear if things are silly because they are genuinely funny or because they are unserious/stupid. This was maybe the biggest problem of the movie for me. The overall tone was off. They just made a silly movie trusting too much in their funny script, but they forgot to find the correct presentation/balance/vision/tone.

This movie was an opportunity to have a killer selection of late 80s pop music. Well, "Pump Up the Volume" by M/A/R/R/S was used brilliantly, but the other songs not so much. "Kiss" by Tom Jones/The Art Of Noise is imo very annoying song. Alan Silvestri's music however was on point. No surprises there.

Both Dan Aykroyd and Kim Basinger were good, but Alyson Hannigan's nasal/runny nose/boyish voice is annoying. For who was this movie made? It has too mature themes for young children, but also some of the stuff in it such as the "teletubbies"-like spaceship feel too corny for adults. There is a lack of vision about what the identity of this movie really is and perhaps that's the main reason why this movie flopped? Almost nobody felt this movie is for them I think.

Anyway, it is not all negatives. This movie has good stuff in it, just not in optimal way. Now in 2024 this movie offers a fresh and nostalgic trip back to the 80s and I can appreciate at least that. I don't have too many movies like this in my Blu-ray collection.

To my taste this was 3-/5.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I've finally seen all three versions of Salt - you only need to watch the theatrical, as nothing of consequence was added in the other two edits, nothing substantial at least.

Jolie, of course, shines, listen to any director speak about her, and they all extol her work ethic and her stuntwork. Liev, as always, brings his gravitas, and Noyce is on top of his game directing.

Making a cup of tea and then it's The Martian. When I checked this out from the library the lady said that she and her husband love this movie a lot.
" I'm going to have to science the shit out of this." With a little luck, I'll come to accept this without needing to linguistics the shit out of my brain.

Belgian (very) dark humor, tinged with surrealism! Not for sensitive souls, I suppose, or for unconditional dog-lovers.

Three stories are more or less interwoven : a shy, somewhat simple nerd doesn't know how to deal with a (devilish) chihuahua, a famous but egotistical film diva faces a gruesome fate after the death of her all too spoiled dog, security guard Franck is torn between his sweetheart Lola and his dog Perdita...

Starman (1984) w/ Jeff Bridges & Karen Allen - I've been watching this film for 40 years! Enjoy Bridges' portrayal of an alien adjusting to a human body and also the chemistry between the two main characters - check the link for more on the plot and Roger Ebert's 3*/4* review HERE - final scenes filmed at the Meteor Crater in Arizona near Winslow (wife and I visited the place in the 1990s).  Dave :)

QuoteStarman is a 1984 American science fiction romance drama film directed by John Carpenter that tells the story of a non-corporeal alien who has come to Earth and cloned a human body (played by Jeff Bridges) in response to the invitation found on the gold phonograph record installed on the Voyager 2 space probe. The original screenplay was written by Bruce A. Evans and Raynold Gideon, with Dean Riesner making uncredited re-writes. Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role.

I particularly like his Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.  Love Danny Elfman's music and singing in them too.  So creative and original!

Also, Edward Scissorhands...would like to see some of his other ones; I always seem to come in part-way through his movies on t.v.  Will have to check Amazon Prime during my trial.

Yes! I perhaps think best of Sleepy Hollow. And while it isn't everyday viewing, I like his Sweeney Todd better than the consensus.

I suspect that I'll have to check my library network.  I just tried checking a couple of titles on Amazon Prime of T.B.'s movies and they are all rentals or buys.  :(

As an aside, have you ever been to Sleepy Hollow?
