It's a couple of days ago, but the last movie I watched was The Big Sleep.

This one's growing on me.

Water that thought, Karl. ;D
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Actually, I'm 44.  ;)

I am a classic monster geek through and through.  That is a relatively older shot.  Now the shelves are packed to a point that I cannot fit anymore on them.  I have this monster stuff surrounding me on three walls and am about to put up another shelf.  Fortunately, my kids and wife put up with this avenue of my collecting.  Booyah!

PS: Classic post....we always appreciate "funny" at this end and even more so when it is clever.  Still LOL.

Will you be seeing Monsters Vs Aliens then? One review I read suggested that to enjoy it you must have grown up with or at least love the trashy 50s horror flicks. Bingo!

I Love You, Man

Starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel
Director - John Hamburg

Very funny.  My wife and I both enjoyed it immensely.  :)

This will come as no surprise, but I have been trying to get my girlfriend to be open to renting this when it comes to Netflix. Have you seen Pineapple Express? I watched the first half hour last night and wasn't too impressed.  :-\

Hmm, haven't heard of Pineapple Express.  Is this a new TV series, or movie?

Movie, along the lines of Love you Man, Superbad, 40 Year old Virgin, Knocked Up, etc.

You never know, but I would have to give it a try and that probably will not happen.  Enjoyed the first two Alien installments, especially the first (including one of the greatest scores of all time)....after that, they lost me.  However, what that reviewer calls trashy, I call "classic".  ;D

I'll have to see if I can find the source again, Bill . . . I read one reviewer who (IIRC) actually preferred the second movie to the first . . . and felt that the third had some redeeming features.

I might have to check it out then.  ;D  Although I didn't like Superbad or Knocked Up, nearly as much as I Love You Man and 40 Year old Virgin.  There is a new one coming out soon with Jack Black and the young guy from 'Arrested Development' and 'Juno'.  We saw the preview for it when we went to see I Love You Man.  It looks hilarious!

Some of my wife and I's favorite 'recent' comedies are:  Blades of Glory, Anchorman, Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite.

You know....I never used to watch the TV show 'Everbody Loves Raymond'.  Well, now they are replaying 3 straight episodes on weeknights on TLN, and my wife and I have been catching a lot of it.  It's hilarious!  :)

Just to clarify i'm talking about the upcoming Dreamworks CGI film. Maybe you're thinking Aliens vs Predator, which is a steamer and you'd be right to avoid it.  ;)

p.s. totally with you re: Jerry Goldsmith's Alien score. Love it to bits. And FYI there is a bootleg of the entire score going around for that too if you can find it, but you didn't hear that from me *nudge nudge wink wink*...

Arrested Dev is the best!! No TOUCHING!!!  ;D

Napoleon Dynamite is one of the best, funniest movies I have ever seen!!! I could watch it every week and I don't usually like to watch movies more than once. How was Nacho Libre? I heard bad things.

Yes, it is. The dysfunction is right on the money IMO. Seen Ray's older brother's newer show?

Well, a lot of people didn't like it, but my wife and I loved it.  We almost peed ourselves in the theatre, because we were laughing so much.  If you love Jack Black's style of humour, you gotta see it.  Make sure you listen to one of the songs Jack Black sings at the end when the credits are playing.  ;D

No, I haven't seen Ray's "older brother's" show.  Good?

Being a young thing I missed out on the original release, but the Director's Cut of Alien was released for limited release on the big screen a few years back and I jumped at that chance. Amazing! I've never felt such tense silence in a completely packed cinema before.

The 2nd movie is great for what it is, a popcorn flick, but it was never going to have the same impact as the first. The third toned down the action and tried to ramp up the suspense as per the original, with limited success, but there were some interesting scenes and i'm really fond of Elliot Goldenthal's wild Penderecki-esque avante garde score.

Oh, yes, I was thinking Aliens v Predators, but for the above I believe that from the previews there seems to be some bathroom humor wedged in which does not scream .  But who knows.  Our kids are not overly interested in it either.

Hmmm.  I sent DavidW a pro copy many moons ago (single disc).  Wonder if he still has that puppy.  There is this:

Yeah, I like it, not sure if it's still on. I think it's called 'Til Death.

I do like Jack Black, I thought he was great in High Fidelity, another of my all time, top ten comedies. (pun intended)  ;D

Oh wow, I heard that an official full release was in the pipeline but didn't realise it had come to fruition.  :D

*Scuttles off to Amazon UK to investigate...*

Please post if you can find it, Karl.

I believe I will go on a little Universal Monster viewing run.  Instead of chronologically viewing them, I will view them with some common arc or theme as laid out by a fellow monster fan at another site.  IE: The Dracula movies and the ones he appeared in, then the Frankies, etc.  There will be obvious overlap as later in the monster movies Universal would throw multiple monsters together, but I will work around that.  Should be fun!
