I just went to see Inception. After having ranted about how much I dislike the tendency to overplot (The Dark Knight, for example), you might expect me to pan this one. I can't exactly say why but I liked the film. Perhaps it was the cast, which is very good. I especially liked seeing Tom Berenger. Where's he been hiding? Anyway, Nolan fans must see this, and everyone else ought to give it a chance. It has the usual plotting excess but without the triple reversals which I think are the worst feature of many thriller/action pics. Once you accept the bizarre scenario things are rather straightforward.

Todd, I agree about Murphy and Gordon-Levitt. They were excellent. About Decaprio, I guess I come down as pro. Also, why does Ellen Page have such a big head? Is that for her gigantic brain?

One of Berenger's best movies is now about 15 years old: The Last of the Dog Men about a lost tribe of American Indians.

Ellen Page has a big head?  Perhaps they used a fish-eye lens!   0:)

Inception is basically The Matrix plus any hero-needs-redemption movie: still, with state-of-the-art special effects, it was fun to watch.  A huge, pounding, ominous, Minimalistic score by Hans Zimmer is also fun.

The Matrix rawks!   0:)   The sequels go somewhat awry and overboard, which is typical these days (Pirates of the Caribbean).

George!  You forgot to mention her name!

Monica Bellucci

"Meet Miss Ruth Sherwood, from Columbus, Ohio, the Middle of the Universe!"

- Brian Aherne introducing Rosalind Russell in  My Sister Eileen (1942)

Can't wait to rent it.

Saw a Poster for this today as well and it should be good:

It isn't her name that appeals to me.  0:)

Google images provides the rest of that tastefully cropped picture!  But we will remain discreet!   0:)

      That's right, that's the last film I remember. It's a good one.

I dunno....maybe she just needed a big head for this film.

I liked it.  Stylish, atmospheric, well-crafted, "intellectual" thriller, captivating performance/character/screen presence by Noomi Rapace.

The first season of MAD MEN. Great TV.

Last night, powering down from the compose-a-thon, I continued Season 2 of Get Smart: "Somebody Down Here Hates Me"

Have you read the book?

The first season of MAD MEN. Great TV.

My wife and I only watched the first season.  I was quite willing to move on to the second, but she wanted no part of it as she found the characters very unappealing.  As for me, I was most taken with all the smoking on the show.

Won't see that on network television ever again ; )

We'll miss things like Don Adams's gag in the episode of Get Smart I watched last night, in which he inadvertently avoids being shot because he's asked for a cigarette, and he fumbles the case, cigarettes flying every which way.  Agent 86 stoops, and a Kaos assassin takes the bullet instead.

The first episode of the new BBC Sherlock miniseries starring Benedict Cumberbatch. It was really good by modern TV standards, and interestingly cast - worth a view of it goes to BBC America.

Time really flew by, watching this, I loved it.  Interesting modern angle/approach.

Nope.  Will probably take the plunge sooner or later.  Have you?

Yes, and I enjoyed it.  I was wondering if your approval implied favorable comparison with the book, or just that the film is good as a film.

I've read the first book and will probably want to read all three before watching the film (or films).  I don't want my own mental image of the central character to be replaced by the actress that was engaged to play her in the film.

MARTIN SCORSESE:       "Shutter Island"

It may seem a sacrilege, but I never liked much Scorsese movies. This one, however. impressed me, because of its atmosphere and dramatic intensity. The actors are exceptional.

My second time seeing this moving film. Great cast, performances and script.
