The movie that really got collectors spot on was Ghost World, specifically the scene where Seymour has a gathering of his collector friends.  Just replace shellacs with Bruckner CDs, and it's exactly like some of the parties I've been to.

Alright I've added it to my queue. :)

When I decided to start collecting the (IMO) great films on DVD, that one was among the first on my list. Very enjoyable.

How could Hot Tub Time Machine let anyone down?  You'd have to expect that it wouldn't be dreck, but the trailer should be sufficient to dispel that faint hope.  ;)

Date Night (2010) w/ Tina Fey & Steve Carrell - a Netflix rental - seemed to be highly recommended initially but later reviews poor - so not expecting much - only 3* on Amazon (usually over rated reviews there) but slightly less on the Netflix site!

But Tina & Steve are just wonderful together, especially in their more intimate scenes - the car chases and the confusion downgrade the film unfortunately but I did watch it to the end; I'll probably do a 3* Netflix rating (would to to 3+ but not possible) - not going to purchase this film but I'd love to see this pair in another production that 'tunes into' their talents better -  :D

Sounds like a rip-off of this classic film

Oh yeah I love the Out of Towners!  Hilarious! ;D

A classic. Loved it since I was a kid.

One of my very favorite Jack Lemmon perfomances!

"True Lies" with the California Governor.  Aside from a couple of stupid scenes, it's a very entertaining action film.

Well Guys, concerning the The Out-of-Towners (1970) w/ Lemmon & Dennis, I just cannot no longer stand watching that film - I do like Jack in most of his roles, but find him obnoxious, irritating, and grating on my nerves in this role, and Sandy just accentuates this reaction - don't own or plan to watch this movie again; but for those who enjoy, please do -  ;D

Now I'm not pushing Date Night on anymore and rating the film just 3* on Netflix meaning that I like it and the plot held my interest - a 'rip off' of the film above, well in part but a modern update; plus Fey & Carell were not really from out of town - lived in New Jersey (where my wife was born) - we always went into the 'Big Apple' on our trips back to her home.

Both films are wacky comedies - The Out-of-Towners will continue to hold up better - the other film will likely fade into movie limbo -  ;) :)

Yes, I find this one good fun.  It's probably industrial laziness at some level, but I enjoy the fact that they use the same tango which accompanies a scene in Scent of a Woman.

For my part, it may be that the movie enjoys a nostalgic blurring effect . . . it is decades since I've seen it in its entirety.

That said, it's still probably my favorite Lemmon performance . . . he strikes me as a talent who wasn't necessarily best served by what was available to him in his time. (Perhaps this motif is only underscored by his cameo in Branagh's Hamlet, with which I have no great quarrel.)

I certainly do think rather more highly of The In-Laws than of The Out-of-Towners

Fair disclosure: As I grew up, I came to identify Tony Randall in the role of Felix in The Odd Couple . . . don't know how I should take Lemmon in that role (I am guessing that Walter Matthau would have been Oscar . . . and, I should think, a richer Oscar than, what was his name?, Jack Klugman?)

[No, I don't think that Randall and Matthau would work well across from one another in their respective roles . . . .]

The In-Laws?  A bit out of the blue.  Alan Arkin played Jack Lemmon in the In-Laws.   8)

I never watched the show, so it is always the movie for me.

It took me three hours to figure that F. U. meant Felix Ungar! ;D ;D :D

A twofer from 2006: The Baby's Room and To Let

I'm about ready to throw the first one on before getting ready for my students, so I'll keep ya posted if you like, Dave.

Branagh's Hamlet deployed some truly inspired cameo appearances. If you didn't know any better, you would expect a Hamlet featuring Jack Lemmon, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Richard Attenborough, Gerard Depardieu, and Charlton Heston to be godawful.
