A few days ago l watched the 1966 Batman on bluray. Quite enjoyable with the West & Ward commentary track, and pretty good bonus material on the disc. Burton's film works for me as well, but mostly because of the set design, score and Nicholson's Joker. Fortunately, there is room for both iterations, and more.

Cheers,

Indeed! And Nolan's Batman is the one that works for me. The first two films, anyway. (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight)

Hitman: Agent 47....

Action packed thriller with all of the usual cliche killings, stunts and cars etc. but not a bad watch.

Edward Scissorhands, finished the bluray about thirty minutes ago. Such dark beauty in the film, hidden like invisible gold under the simple plot, with Elfman's greatest score surrounding it...

Over the weekend, Blade, again, though this time with the commentary (unexceptional, I think).

Rewatched Blade Runner, this time in the original US theatrical version with Harrison Ford's voiceover.  I hadn't watched the original version in a long time, perhaps since the 90s.  The voiceover doesn't add much early, and the late film lines hurt the film, so this was probably my last viewing of that version, and from now on I will watch only the final cut.  Hopefully, Blade Runner 2: Electric Boogaloo will be as good as this movie.

Own Blade Runner on BD and need to re-watch, but reading about the 'update' w/ Ford & Gosling called Blade Runner 2049 (pic inserted above) in USA Today this morning - sounds like a fun film that I should see on the BIG SCREEN (but how to convince my wife to - we usually do a matinee then an early dinner?)  ;)  Dave

Hi, Dave. So far, so good for Blade Runner 2049. I'm very anxious to see it. Here's a list of reviews and their links...

The Age of Adaline....

One of the best, well crafted films that I have watched in a very long time.

Krakatoa The Last Days....

A fine BBC drama-documentary that depicts the infamous volcanic eruption from a number of very human interest points of view.
It is available on YouTube for those who might be interested.

Angelina Jolie directed this film about the Khmer rouge crazy and monstrous regime's genocide of its own people. Cambodia's entry as Best Foreign Film in the 2018 oscars race. Based on a true story. It's a good film, but I don't think it's deserving of an award.

Logan.  The title character has to escort an adorable mutant girl to safety.  I've not watched all the X-Men movies, nor have I seen the Wolverine movies, so I don't know how Professor X came back from the dead, but he's in the flick.  The R rating translates into lots of gruesome violence, which is sort of refreshing in the world of often quite bloodless superhero flicks, but the violence against children portion of the flick isn't really my thing.  Well enough made for what it is, it's still a throwaway entertainment.  I don't know how many more superhero flicks I can take.

other interesting films on this topic
Rhity Phan, S21 and the excellent Killing fields.
Bizot book "Le portail" is very interesting as well as Rhity Phan book.
I did visit S21 as well as the killing fields in Cambodia.   What communism leads to.

Hmmm. This is debatable. It's as if you are saying that fascism leads to death camps. It can and did happen, of course. The khmer rouge movement was an extremist fringe of communism led by thugs and butchers. An extremely sad example of an inhuman regime.

Was more impressed by this than I expected to be. A real sense of place and all the peripheral detail of working class lives.

The Battle of the Sexes (2017) w/ Emma Stone as Billie Jean King & Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs - about the 1973 tennis match described below from RottenTomatoes w/ a 84% rating (7.2/10) there from the critics.  Viewed at our downtown independent theater and enjoyed - note the main action, i.e. the match, comes near the end - if interested, take a look at the reviews in the links, overall positive but mixed.  I'd do a 3 1/2* to 4* rating of 5* if commenting on Amazon - recommended.  Dave

QuoteIn the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women's movement, the 1973 tennis match between women's World #1 Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-men's-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed as the BATTLE OF THE SEXES and became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world.

I would say that this one greatly exceeded my expectations and would probably be among the best Star Wars movies made so far IMO (along with Empire Strikes Back and Revenge Of the Sith).
I'm really looking forward to the new movie!.

The Weeping Meadow....

A beautifully crafted and photographed film which contains much magnificent imagery.

I saw Blade Runner 2049. I liked it. The visuals are really stunnig, I may rewatch it just for that. The script was fine... a bit too round shaped... I would have liked a bit of the mystery and open endedness of the first one... as well as some of its poetry. Definitely the best sci fi film in a long while... quite refreshing to feel some of the 80s really good stuff again.
