Fan also of Keanu Reeves (esp. in the first Matrix film) but have not seen that remake - hope that you've viewed the original 1951 movie, inserted above? The blu-ray restoration is excellent (Review HERE).  Dave :)

The original is staggeringly good!

Another big thumbs up for the remarkable Parasite. There was something Shakespearean about the dynamic of the character ensemble.

RIP and thanks, MvS

Going in Style

This is not a comedy per se but I found it to be quite amusing. It is an honest and true to life film that is worth your time.

RIP Max Von Sydow

Indeed. I see we posted on the same day using the same iconic image. I probably should have posted here as well.
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

I found this to be more watchable and entertaining than I anticipated.

The Call

This is a taut thriller with just a little something extra to add in terms of tension.

It's a lot better than its reputation. I think it's just not the kind of movie that action hero fans wanted.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Perhaps that is why it appealed to me  ;D

Any Zorro fans here!  Over the last few weeks, I've watched both of the film versions below:

Mark of Zorro, The (1940) w/ Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell, and Basil Rathbone - more the classic story w/ Power playing a 'buffoon' - he was gorgeous at that age and Darnell just beautiful; very good blu-ray production (review HERE).

Mask of Zorro, The (1998) w/ Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Stuart Wilson - different story w/ humor; again main actors look great w/ yet another beautiful gal! Hopkins w/ that delightful voice always a fun watch. Wonderful sword fighting scenes in both films w/ Banderas seeming to be a 'natural', as evident by the comments from the 'fencing trainer', Bob Anderson, on the set quoted below.  Dave :)

QuoteThe three were trained by Bob Anderson during pre-production in Mexico, spending 10 hours a day for two months specifically on fight scenes from the film. "We used to call him Grumpy Bob on the set, he was such a perfectionist," director Martin Campbell reflected. "He was incredibly inventive, and also refused to treat any of the actors as stars. They would complain about the intensity of the training, but having worked with him there's nobody I'd rather use." During interviews for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Anderson rated Banderas the best natural talent he had worked with. (Source)

On the Waterfront

This is a true classic and for good reason.

Gifted

A terrific film based around the human needs of a mathematically gifted child. Definitely worth seeing.

I do enjoy The Mask of Zorro, Dave. The screenplay may be a shade overwrought, perhaps, but on the whole, I think it a success.

Cheers Karl - a fun film - if you've not seen the older movie w/ Power, then recommended - the sword fighting between him and Basil Rathbone is not to be missed; plus, Power's kind of 'effeminate' persona is fun - Dave :)

I love The Mask of Zorro. I have to admit I haven't yet seen The Mark of Zorro. :/
