It's been years since I've seen this Die Hard film, I think I remember not trying to figure the water then also.

Terminator: Genisys.  I went in with low expectations.  I was not disappointed.  At least it's better than Terminator Salvation.

Wow, Dave. I had no clue this show has 10 seasons, that's an impressive run.

Contemplating getting HBO Now on my Apple tv for a month to binge Game of Thrones. Anyone want to encourage or dissuade me?

Hi Greg - yep, the 10th season of Bones ended in June of this year - I was able to watch the first 8 seasons (which I did twice) w/ our Netflix subscription - bought seasons 9 & 10 w/ Amazon streaming - not getting stale at all - I guess good writing and the characters just seem to work well together; and looks like there will be a season 11?

Concerning Game of Thrones, I've purchased the first 4 seasons from Amazon (and plan to obtain season 5) - I've been enjoying but need to start over, an interweaving fantasy story w/ many characters - a lot of sex & violence (if you're into that - YEH!  ;)) - AND, I must say that one of my favorite characters is Peter Dinklage, the little man - he is just great in his princely role - try season 1 and you may just get 'hooked'?  Dave :)

I recall having watched an episode or two of Bones but I was offput by the main character and the tone of the series.

Well, I'm a retired physician and took anthropology as an undergrad and have been reading books on the topic for decades, so really love the main theme of the series, i.e. about a forensic anthropologist - Emily Deschanel who plays the 'Bones' character (Temperance Brennan) is a beautiful woman and her personality, especially in the earlier seasons is meant to be exactly why you likely were 'put off' - takes watching a number of episodes, if not several seasons, to fully appreciate her role - but hey this is like loving some composers and not others - just a matter of personal opinion.  Dave :)

I can admit that I would have not had the courage to resist, had I lived under Hitler's regime. I wouldn't have been proud of it, but at least I admit it. If that really makes me as bad or worse in your eyes than those who actually committed those crimes, well, that can't be helped. Personally, I think actually  committing genocide and not being bold enough to do something about it in fear of death cannot even be compared to each other. The former is one of the greatest atrocities one can imagine, the latter is merely... weak.
Millions of the latter is what made the former possible, though, and not much better than just following orders that lead to a genocide.

A question much debated chez B. Is she good looking?

XB-70 Valkyrie

Finally got around to watching Trainspotting on Netflix. I see very few movies--probably half dozen a year (too many other competing interests). I thought it was great, and cannot remember any other movie that so quickly transitions from the hilarious to the disgusting to the depressing and sad.

Ewan McGregor really acted his ass off in that movie, and deserves a lot of credit. Based on his performance in the Star Bores prequals (which my wife dragged me to see), I thought he was just another crappy, overrated pretty-boy Hollywood actor. Realistically, however, the scripts of those movies were so bad you can't really fault the guy.

He's usually pretty good when he has a script and a director. You might like Salmon fishing in the Yemen.

I should have been no use in that scene  8)

I never even bothered to try and count in my head, just automatically assumed they were doing their math right.

In terms of physical features, her eyes are quite striking. We like the show...

Always enjoy this one.  Our kiddos watched it for the first time with me.  Both enjoyed it and my son asked, " How old was Spielberg when he pulled this off?"

Need to sink our teeth into the extras tonight.

Jaws is definitely worth a watch or two  8)

Incredibly lame pun: at the ending of Spy Who Loved Me "Jaws the henchman" is fighting with "Jaws the shark". Not sure if it was intentional. Of course, the title of Jaws probably doesn't refer to shark's name...

Edit: I really liked the "My kids were on that beach too"-line by Mayor. Self-realization that he put his kids lives in danger because of opportunity to make some money and fame.

The Bridges of Madison County (1995) w/ Clint Eastwood & Meryl Streep; Eastwood, director.  Synopsis below - well done sometimes slow but an excellent performance by Streep (w/ an Italian accent); beautiful scenery & the usual jazz influenced soundtrack by Eastwood w/ the wonderful Johnny Hartman singing three songs.  Consistent reviews:  3.5/4.0, Ebert; 4.5/5.0, Amazon; 7.5/10, IMDB; and 89% on Rotten Tomatoes - may not appeal to all, but I would do at least a 4.0/5.0 on Amazon - Dave :)

P.S. 4.0/5.0 on visual & audio restoration (on the Blu Ray site I often quote), a major reason for my purchase, especially the audio.

QuoteA moving love story about a photographer on assignment to shoot the historic bridges of Madison County. He meets a housewife, whose husband and children are away on a trip, and the film traces a brief affair that is never sordid but instead one of two soul mates who have met too late.

The blu of that film is great, one of the first I bought that made me collect. I've always been fascinated by nature (who isn't?), but my love for water (my first "word") .. oceans, sea monsters, and especially sharks .. runs all the way back to when I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I love this movie, it is truly one of the greats, and it had a resonating psychological impact too .. to this day, I really won't really set foot in an ocean .. or at least nothing past my knees, and the water has to be clear. Murky? Forget about it. And when I hear about these shark attacks in the news I think of this film.

There was another film released a few years back called Open Water .. that aroused similar feelings, though it's realism made it more terrifying/probable.

I've heard that the famous "You're going to need a bigger boat"-line was ad-libbed. All the best lines are.  0:)

Recently wrapped up watching the TV series The Wire. Highly recommended to anyone out there reading this, it is the bomb. You will not be disappointed. Trust me.

I've always been a sucker for all things True-Crime oriented for as long as I can remember (also see above), this includes Mob Pictures ..

last nite I dug into this box, containing some of it's oldest (finest?) examples ..
