Political Correctness is an invention of the political right-wing

Well, those right-wing neo-con commie hating bastards can be quite convincing at times:

Now, if you'll excuse me, i'm off peppering my neighbor with racial slurs...

You are such a neo-Nazi I really do not know why I bother with you.

Just walk into any comedy club, not that you would, and see how long it takes you to get away with racist, sexist and physical/mental disability jokes. Use your right to express yourself freely as an excuse before they kill you.

Your last sentence demonstrates that you have no inkling, none whatsoever.

Thanks, Lethe...that provided the belly laugh I needed to get my morning off right!  (But it wasn't politically correct...I'm so ashamed of myself for laughing...I know--I'll use the coercive power of the state to bully everyone into thinking the way I think they should!)

Indeed, just bomb them until they live like you do.  $:)

Depends. If you are black, you can get away with anything. Ho wait, i forgot, only evil whitey is culpable of racism and prejudice. My bad.

I love your line of reasoning though. Because i dislike PC, it means i'm a prejudiced bastard and that i'm just crossed i can no longer engage in racist and discriminatory behavior. What a perfect example of thought control.

Channeling Archie Bunker, are you?

Only Carroll O'Connor made it entertaining, sort of . . . .

He played that role so well that he made it impossible for me to see him as anything but an ignorant racist.

F___ Off ........

Close, but no cigar!   ;D

I think PC goes a bit too far. However, anyone who finds it alright to mock the handicapped or other races are just a**holes. Especially if they mean it.

Say it behind their backs like respectable people!   :P

And yet, we see it in British TV comedy a lot. Irony? Satire? Or something more sinister?

Of course they are a**holes, but in the current political climate, they are also criminals, which is going a bit far, don't you think?

But i digress. The basic problem of PC is not that it discourages prejudice or racism, but the way it seeks to control language and by extension thoughts.

For example, it's perfectly customary among young people (particularly the 'fratboy' type, which regrettably many of my friends fall into) to use the term 'gay' to describe things that are particularly annoying, boring or simply ridiculous. It's quite harmless, and nobody really means any hill with it, particularly considering the one who uses the term the most among my friends is actually homosexual himself. Yet, according to the PC police, all uses of the term should be discouraged because it is 'potentially offensive'. According to them, the word itself carries the did, regardless of context, which is nonsense. A word is just a word, it's the sentiment behind it that makes the difference, and even then, is it truly something that deserves so much political and social attention, particularly compared to real social hills, like violence, true hatred and murder?

Just to show you how pathetic the situation has become:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070912/ap_on_re_us/woman_tortured

"Her captors, all of them white, choked her with a cable cord and stabbed her in the leg while calling her a racial slur, poured hot water over her and made her drink from a toilet, according to criminal complaints"

Notice how the use of 'a racial slur' is put next to the actual violence. I'm sure that in between torture, rape and being forced to eat animal feces, the victim was truly concerned about being addressed with a racist remark.

Of course, it's clear that once we succeed in eliminating all racist words and thoughts, cases like the above will be a thing of the past, right?

"Boy the way Glenn Miller played..."

I found it incredible how O' Connor, a practicing and reasonably devout Roman Catholic, portrayed Bunker, an at times rather vehement anti-RC.

I think it's right that Josquin pointed this out. Countries like France can't be said to promote Free Speech in that way.

I feel it is ignorant and self-hating to attack someone (anyone) in general, but to judge people based on ethnicity is about as lame as lame gets.

But I do happen to believe in the right of Free Speech...even for idiots. If people are influenced by such idiotic Speech, then they most likely had something messed up about them in the first place.

On the other hand, who else but a smug, self-righteous, knee-jerk Liberal would portray such a viciously bigoted stereotype of working-class conservatives?

Wrong, again. You really ought to come out of the Middle Ages.

The Black Community in the States is sick and tired of so-called Afro-American comedians using the N-word for a cheap laugh. They, rightly, see this as derogatory and degrading. Hey, but what do you care, it is your right to freedom of speech and expression that is threatened here, irrespective of whom you upset, degrade or annoy?

You just carry on.

Do you treat women as second-class citizens?

No, ignore that, you probably do not know any, other than your mother...perhaps.

Typical PC group think. Just because you are sick and tired of it doesn't mean they are. How could you possibly know?

it is your right to freedom of speech and expression

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with this, it's about freedom from ideological persecution.

Well, yes. Treating women with respect and good manners is the best way never to get laid. Haven't you heard?
