What is beauty? What drives humanity to pursuit it?
Someone (can't remember who) said that beauty touches man because it reminds him of his divine state from a past life.

What is beauty?

Too subjective and broad to define.

Because it's considered a positive thing.

Edit: Sorry for the bullshit answers, but it's nice to get to the core of the point ASAP.
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

I agree that's very broad.  Narrow the point of this thread.  We're not having a drink at a bar, pontificating with no focus or sense because we're wasted.   :D :D

What is beauty?

truth, beauty & justice are the three most intangible, abstract concepts the human mind has ever invented. start a thread on it if you want but i don't think anyone will agree on anything.

Might beauty be an eternal principle, an ideal towards which we grope through our many artistic and other endeavours?

No, I think that's called 'superficiality'. ;)

Beauty is only skin deep.  ;D

If I cut off someone's skin Hellraiser style, would I have stolen their beauty? ;D  Wait then I could wear the skin Buffalo Bill style and then I'd be beautiful? ;D hehehe ok I need my coffee.

Maybe the point is, that you are induced to believe, that she is within your reach, even if she isn´t (in the real world).

Familiarity breeds lust maybe.  You covet what you see on a daily basis but can't have.  I don't just a thought, or maybe I'm just remembering Silence of the Lambs. ;D

You are wrong, female beauty depends as well on shape as on surface, and even the quantity and the localisation of the subcutaneous fatty tissue is all-important for the shape, as well as the muscles and the skeleton. So female beauty depends on the entire body.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.
