Well, I was half-joking, which would mean I was half-serious. Have you ever heard the pejorative term "Massholes", referring to the supposedly bad driving of people from Massachusetts? In the months I lived in Boston, not once did feel unsafe whilst crossing a street, whereas here in Florida I wouldn't trust these drivers with a potato gun, much less a 1000-plus-pound automobile.

Might that have to do with the average age of the Florida drivers? Here in Chicago, I mark the day in the calendar when I actually see someone signal a lane change.

And let me guess: you also wash your clothes by hand, play chamber versions of all music from scores and use candles at night? ::)

Sorry, Don, but that aged, pathetic argument about automatic cars equalling lazy driving sticks in my throat. >:( As technologly advances in any area, the majority embrace it. Why not so in engine transmission, too?

Don't be so sensitive.  I was just clowning around.  I do think there is a greater feeling of power with a shift, but I don't mind driving my wife's automatic at all.  After all, the main thing about an automobile is its reliability, not what your hands and feet are doing.

Woops I caught you now--

I apologize Saul for what I had written, I didn't see the full story.

David, why do think Saul even knows this thread exists? Because he never goes ANYWHERE on this forum except The Diner. ::)

Until recently, I owned a forest green 1998 Dodge Neon (132 hp engine) with auto trans which I bought new, and took delivery on two days before Thanksgiving, 1997.  I took delivery on my present car Sept 1, 2007.  It is a 2008 Toyota Scion xB with a 158 hp engine, auto trans.  Color: teal.

The last time I was in Boston, I felt like Jesus.

Now you've done it. Everyone's going to burn your records.

Sorry, Don. Wife's very near to giving birth, so I'm a bit edgy right now. :-\

If it was convenient, I wouldn't drive at all. Traffic scares me to no end. I don't think I will ever shake the feeling that I'm careening down the road in a giant steel death trap, mere feet from other death traps. Alas, Florida towns were built to be accommodating for the Great American King Automobile.

I hear you man. For the first time in my life, I'm living in a place that's compact enough that you can just walk everywhere. I love not having a car :D.

when I first arrived in London from the states 7 years ago, I had the pleasure of driving this beauty for 6 weeks:

it's so small you can park it face out  ;D

at the time it was new, from France, so the steering wheel was on the left-hand side which helped me no end. Still don't feel entirely comfortable driving (manual) on the right, but then I take the bus/tube most days as I live in central London and find it ridiculous to pay out the ass for insurance/MOT/tax/and exorbitant petrol charges, not to mention £8/day congestion charge if I want to drive into the 'official' centre.

incidentally found this while getting the other pic. Some people...:)
