Some photos of Siouxsie from last Saturday night (alas, none of me).

Aside from the ridiculously loud volume level (I wore earplugs), it was great fun.

Thanks for pics, Bruce. Reminds me of an incident in the early 80s. I was buying groceries, wearing a Siouxsie and the Banshees T-shirt. The checkout girl looked at my shirt, misread it, and wanted to know who Siouxsie and the Banjos were.  ;D

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Kinda reminds me of that story about Tabitha Soren from MTV interviewing Bill Clinton.  She asked what he liked to listen to and he said Thelonious Monk.  Then she asked him, "who's the loneliest monk?"

I scored tix to Feist tomorrow.  An hour later I found out Von Otter is singing at Oberlin.  Oh well...

Maybe a Monday night is like that for you Bruce. It seems every other night might be a "wish I were ten people" evening in your case. ;D

Feist was great last night.  It felt very informal and low key in a way and she commented that it was actually nice that the place wasn't packed to the gills because it felt like she was just hanging and playing for those of Cleveland who really wanted to check it out.  She also remarked on how amazing it was to play the glorious Palace theater and that 3 years prior she played a local music venue/bar called the Grog Shop to about 30 people.

I was particularly impressed with her pitch.  Spot on.  The band was very supportive and really tight. Tight in a way that you don't really hear it unless you really pay attention.  The music can be so sparse with nothing happening for an entire measure, but the music never sagged and there was just a great way that they would play so little but enough to tie everything together.  Each member of the band played a few different instruments, each also taking turns on keyboard or xylophone.

A highlight was the visual aspect being projected behind the band.  At first I thought it was film but then I realized that she has shadow puppeteers on tour with her.  They provided some wonderfully evocative stories with things ranging from simple stencils to color and light effects on objects in an overhead projector to real time video.  All of that stuff was done very simply and quite sparse but layered, just as the music.  It added so much though, some very creative visual stuff.

Check her out if you get a chance,
Allan

I'm attending Festival International de Louisiane this evening.  I went last year and it was really good.
