New copies of the complete Gardiner Bach Cantatas box (SDG) at Europadisc for $135 if you're not paying VAT. That's the lowest I've ever seen.

I paid more than that in 2014, but think of all the extra time I have had to enjoy it gathering dust on my shelf these last five years. :)

That's exactly my fear. I've wanted the box for a while to go along with Gardiner's book on Bach, which my dad gave me for Christmas a few years ago. But there is so much music in the house, and when will I really have the time to pull that set down and listen to cantatas while reading the book?  :-\

This begs the question:

1) What is the oldest cd set you have (let's limit it to under 10 discs) that you have not open?
2) What is the oldest big box you have that you have not opened?

Not counting the stuff I got from Arkivmusic's Warner clearance, which I am going through now as systematically as I can, the answer is all opera, most of it Wagner, most of it sitting on my shelf for several years.: Solti's Wagner, Barenboim's Wagner, a Sony omnibus Wagner set, Callas Remastered, Toscanini does Verdi, Harnoncourt does Monteverdi, the Levine Met DVD of the Ring. Problem with these is simply the fact that I prefer to listen to an opera all in one session (or at least one day)

I don't regret getting it. It turns out I got it after starting a very slow journey through Rilling's set. Maybe I should interleave them.

Same here, with some of the same sets/music as you...Solti's Ring, but also Karajan's and Keilberth's, Callas complete EMI recordings, Domingo The Opera Collection on DG, complete Verdi operas on Decca, etc etc  In some cases we're talking 4-5 years  ::). It's a matter of mood and occasion - one day they will be in synch  :).

1) I think I've listened to all but the very newest, at least once. Last month I got the complete Rossini overtures from Naxos and haven't opened that, but it's only been in my house for 2 weeks.
2) n/a but the Harmonia Mundi Lumières and Sony "Liszt the Master and Magician" box I've only listened to maybe 1-2 times in 3-4 years of ownership, however. The Liszt box was like $15 for 26 CDs so that purchase was, uh, not strategically guided.  ;D Also the complete Sviatoslav Richter Decca/DG/Philips box has proven way less of a regular in my CD player than I expected 2-3 years ago. Have only heard a few of the discs from that. The last Big Boxes I purchased were Andre Previn and Anne Queffelec, CDs from both of which I listened to on the drive to work this morning (Don Juan + a Scarlatti sonata chaser to cool down  ;D ).

I have listened to a majority of every big box I own. The only smaller sets I haven't listened to are a Tristan & Isolde and a couple Ring cycles. But I have a lot of stuff that I've only listened to once or twice.

Among big boxes, a Bach cantata cycle is one of the best choices.

I originally collected each set as it was originally released and my recommendation is to buy the set. It is also a good idea to pair it with the Gardiner book. Do not regret it later. Just my two cents worth as a very long time admirer of Gardiner's interpretation of Bach's Cantatas

Yup, the cantatas are worth having. Ihaveowned several complete sets and gone through them more than once.  I still have 2, Gardiner and Suzuki. I regret neither purchase but have not made it all the way through either yet . FWIW Suzuki is my first choice.

New stuff at JPC. Not so super duper prices as they used to be, methink  ::). But still some interesting buys.

Admirers of Rachel Podger, have fun:

Anybody have any experience with Ning Feng? Some of his CD couplings are interesting.

Well, this is quite impressive. Seems like worth a look.

Podger/Cooper is very good, highly recommendable, although the box has only minimal documentation. The only other one from these offers I know is Podger's vivaldi op.4 which I also like but I cannot claim that I ever bothered to compare, not even sure I have a different recording, it's not one of his more frequently played/recorded collections.
