WOW, that is a steal!  :)

Even though I absolutely love hearing Mozart played by HIP groups, that Hogwood set, to me anyway, sounds like something is lost from it....something missing....and I think it's the tone of the strings. Perhaps they are just too thin for me. At that price though, I would still get it! (Alas, I don't have the money)

Presumably, Mr Gould's vocal obligato is now even more intrusive?

MAHLER  - looks pretty complete, if not, enough at 18cds for £21.13 (export from UK can take VAT off, then only £16.93, a bit over £20 when shipping is included) at amazon.uk

I don't know why you wouldn't order it via amazon.com as it's just over $25.  Unless you have  credit card that doesn't charge fees for intl charges, it makes more sense to order it from Amazon.com

Looks tempting for under $30. Rattle x 3 is a no go for me though.

This was not at all what I expected from the title:

[asin]B00TQNMCDU[/asin]

- not a Mahler symphony or a Bartók concerto or a Rite in sight.  £10.84 on am.uk marketplace.  9.5 hours looks a bit short for 10 discs - old LP reissues, I assume - but can't complain about the adventurous repertoire.

Both our Jeffrey (Smith) and my fellow composer Ivan Moody report finding it rather an odd mixed bag.

just looked into Amazon.es for the first time.  Most of their boxes are more expensive than others. However, their Wand box is 30 Euros, and the Sony 61 CD Beethoven is 29 Euros.
It's all good...

Well, that Handel boxset did not make it to me in the end. Amazon canceled the order citing a pricing discrepancy. They gave me a $5 voucher as a peace offering.

A $5 voucher is a just a slap in the face IMHO. I suppose it's better than nothing at all. Personally, I know what it's like to get burned like this, but I'll also say that Amazon has done some good and have taken care of plenty of issues I've had with them over the years. Not a perfect company by any stretch, but really the only option I have if I want to buy music.

They could have legitimately offered nothing...but there may be more to it.  I got it for the cheap price, and I remember at least one other person here, possibly more than that, also got it. So if they honored the price for us, why not you?

Yeah, it's annoying that they took three months to decide. On the plus side, I have a lot of the Horowitz OJC boxset to get through. Then there's the Perahia boxset. Oh, and the Toscanini. And Stravinsky on Sony. And those Richter boxsets. Phew. On reflection, I probably don't need the Handel just yet...

Yes, I wondered that. Perhaps just the luck of the draw. Or did they look at purchasing records and decide I was a low-grade customer?

I buy a lot on Amazon US, but not much from Amazon US.  I probably have got more from Amazon Italy than Amazon US.

But did you order from the UK?.  Perhaps they felt the shipping cost across the pond was too much.
