Dear friend, I need your help.  I'm the Minister of Finance in a small but rich and corrupt  (Whoops, wrong venue.)

Santa gave me $100 and commanded me to spend it on classical CDs.  What would you suggest?

karlhenning

Well, Santa made me a similar proposition. And what I did buy was:

Kubelik / Berliner Philharmoniker / Dvořák / The Nine Symphonies

.

Mackerras / Janáček / The Operas

.

Bryden Thomson / RSNO / Martinů / Complete Symphonies

Kullervo

So you don't need to transfer funds from Nigeria? ;D

I would buy some of the box sets that are languishing on my wishlist.

I'll tell you after I've decided what to buy with my $100 from Santa. I thought it was a lot of money until I saw how expensive certain recordings I'm looking for are. Maybe I will go on a budget reissue spree or something.

Personally, I'd go for the Kempff 50s LvB sonatas, which I still haven't gotten around to acquiring.

Well, Santa told me I was over the age limit. So I borrowed $50 from my unborn son and decided to go for the Vanska complete Sibelius symphonies.

Dancing Divertimentian

For bang for your buck this Bach/Herreweghe "4-fer" is worth considering.

In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Thank you Santa. I will pay the difference if necessary. :-*

I would make them all selections of music you do not already have David.  No repeats by other performers.  Use your hundred to venture into the unknown a bit.  That way if you do land a dud, then hey, it was a gift!  :)

Solti's performance of Der Ring Des Nibelungen. In a heartbeat. That way I could really start working my way toward Sarge's mindblowing collection.
