Lang is coming to my school for a lecture and giving a speech on January 8th. He'll also answer some questions we have for him. If you guys have any questions like why he make orgasmic facial expressions to the piano, feel free to post them here, I'll ask him in person then tell you guys the answer after.

Ask him why is he such a young and arrogant brat. No need to strut around like he does. More humility is needed for him. Too pompous.

Ask him where he got his pants, they are the most ridiculous looking I have ever seen.

longears

Ask whether a composition should be a vehicle through which the performer expresses himself, or if the performer should be a vehicle through whom the composer's intentions are expressed--at least, insofar as scholarship and the limitations of talent permit.

greg

Ask him if he can learn to do tricks while playing piano... like somersaults, cartwheels, kicks, chops, blocks, etc. and then ask why he doesn't take the piano and smash and burn it at the end of a concert.

Come again? You think he understands that question?

Ask him for his opinion of Elgar's Piano Concerto (as realized/reconstructed by Walker), and whether he's aware of anything worse in the repertoire .........

I just did a Google search for "bad piano concerto" and the results were Prokofiev, Mozart, and Dvorak.  :D

I'd like to know if he's considering commissioning some new piano works, either by Chinese composers or others.  I'd also be curious to know if he's considered doing any of the Xenakis piano concertos.  If he likes them, I'm sure he could tackle them.

greg

i would imagine him liking the Xenakis piano concertos...... if he's actually heard them in the first place.

Yes, that's the catch.  I actually have enjoyed his playing in person--not "more" than other pianists, necessarily, but enough to recognize that he does have talent.  And I suspect he would be really challenged, and engaged, by something fiendishly difficult to play.

i want to ask how often he receives disrespectful comments from talentless people who claim to know a lot more about music than he does.

How about these?

Looks like pajamas.

Or who the heck did his hair? Looks like someone beat him over the head with an ugly stick.
