I'm not an expert at this :)
Springrite, in another thread you wrote you were in Beijing; are you living there? I was under the impression you are from South Korea... Now I read your name is Paul so I may be completely wrong.

Yes, I do live in Beijing. I was born and raised here, but spent 22 years in the US until I came back in 2002. Now I am settled in Beijing and, as the Chinese saying goes, the leaves never fall far from the tree. I have returned for good.

Which is good.
Interesting saying,by the way. In germany we have "The apple doesn't fall far from the stock." You say it when you see descendants reveal the same characteristics (behaviour, look) as their ancestors.

Tomorrow is Chinese New Year's Eve, Today, Kimi was singing and dancing in the living room while humming. I wasn't paying attention at first. Most of the time when she does that, she sings children's songs (Apple round... Mary had a little lamb...), but then to my surprise, she was humming classical music!

In order, they were:

Beethoven Ode to Joy
Morning Song from Peer Gynt
Brandenburg Concerto #5, first movement
Visi D'Arte

She has heard them, I guess, when I played the music. But how surprised I was to see that she was paying attention and memorized them!

Had some incredible photos of her but the files are huge. I have to figure out how to post them. Incredibly good photos!

No, she did not sing the Berg Violin Concerto that I played last week, In fact, she asked me to stop it.

I have one photo of Kimi singing Visi D'Arte, and one of her conducting Ode to Joy. Let me see if I can post them.

We had a pre-celebration at another couples house.  Much fun.  They served this for desert, a Chinese New Year cake which is a glutinous rice cake:

I enjoyed the taste, but the texture took a bit getting used to.  :)  We are planning an outing this Saturday to the Far East Center in Denver.  They will have the fireworks and CACHC Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe like they do each year and we usually have a lot of fun if the weather permits.

Happy New Year to you and your family, Paul!

Well, that cake is one of my mom's favorite but I can eat it occasionally but certainly don't seek it out.

I may be going to Denver in October for a conference. I would certainly like to add a hockey game, a concert (if any decent ones are available) and a couple of gatherings. Hey, something to consider!

Are you looking for a pro hockey game to take in, or would a Denver University game do?  Would love to meet you for a cup of coffee at the least, Paul.  If you you have time, a home cooked meal is always available from our house as well. :)

Actually, I almost always prefer a college game since the atomsphere is almost always better, and I can always support the same team that you support, which won't be easy if the Aves play the KINGS in a game with lots of 5_4_Fightings!

We will figure something out!

The DU games are fun.  Been to a few and the arena is nice.  Good food as well.  I will look into it when the time gets closer and we can play it by ear.

I am going on a week-long lecture trip tomorrow morning. I will definitely post a few more photos next week!

Kimi has started parttime kindergarten -- 2 half days a week with parents (me usually) accompanying her. This is to get her accustomed and assimilated to the environment. She absolutely loves it!

I would have posted earlier but Vanessa's mother had a stroke so I have spent much time taking care of her in the hospital. She has been recovering well and she cooperates best with treatment and rehab when I am there. For some reason I am the only person she really listens to. While at the hospital I also became the volunterr counselor for other patients and family.

Warm wishes to Vanessa's mom for rapid mending!

And lecture well, Paul!

The pictures of Kimi are cute as can be. You're very blessed to have such a wonderful little girl in your life.

Kimi will be 3 years old in a couple of weeks. Last weekend, we took her horseback riding. She absolutely loved it! I will certainly have a few photos to post in a matter of days as I do not have a lecture tour scheduled for the next two to three weeks, having just finished a busy schedule recently.

I have no idea how to post photos now. What happened to... well, never mind. I see that option is only for subscribers now.

I am posting it as my avatar !
