And where is Harry the Corner?

GMG is like a hydra. It loses one head and two take its place.

karlhenning

Harry's around; he's keeping busy.

If I did not already wear a beard, I should have to grow some stubble in for the right bluesy feel . . . .

Sometimes that shark looks right at ya. Right into your eyes. And the thing about a shark is he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, he doesn't even seem to be livin'... 'til he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'. The ocean turns red, and despite all your poundin' and your hollerin' those sharks come in and... they rip you to pieces.

By the way, Robert Shaw's performance as Quint in Jaws is still one of my all-time favorites acting performances.

Nobody could tell that he was really a choral conductor.

A great shame that Luke has left us. I have learned a deal about music from him and he is such a very clear writer. I hope he comes back to us.

Luke is gone.

He's not dead or anything. He said in his "farewell" message that he was only taking a break.

No, Corey, this is permanent.

I'm going to deregister from GMG now, without bitterness and without pique, but just because a few days away makes me remember how much better it is not to be tied to the keyboard arguing over things I'm not even that wedded to with people who really don't care but just have a need to argue about something, anything. There are some wonderful people here with whom I wish to stay in touch - but if life is sweeter without the less wonderful ones, why stay?

My words.  :-\ It felt like a personal loss, today. Really hope to see him back, in time.
... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

I wrote him a note via Facebook, and hope he will return.

LOL. Yes, it's amazing what a change of clothes can do for a man   ;D

In my experience very few things are permanent. Let's hope that holds true here. :)

Luke gone? This is a terrible loss for this board IMHO. I know for myself it's too exhausting wasting energy on sharks (as well as doing my best with a full-time job in 'real life'), which is why I don't post here too often. But I always enjoyed reading Luke's intelligent and thought-provoking posts on *music*. Would there were more such posters - if not necessarily of his level of knowledge, at least of his ability to treat everyone with respect and to share what he knew with honesty and lucidity.

Yes, prompted by exchanges with the same poster and with a similar attitude that there is more to life.
