It would have been nice if they could have shown at least 1 picture. Maybe Saul can show him how to get that done... :)

Drawing goslings in the embers......supposedly what Sir Thomas Moore wanted to do in old age.

Saul who was so unlamented in his departure sure seems to get a lot of mentions round here. Surely he is not being missed!

It occurred to me last night, after mentioning Heidegger in another thread, that I haven't seen Daedalus for a while.

Though it could be a matter of his reading the forum but not posting, or posting where I don't read; I wouldn't be surprised if either was true... :)

As to the topic of past members, I can only echo calls to see the return of interesting and erudite characters such as both Nigels and Larry. I can't comment on the learning of Herman. I only knew him in his 'berserk' days, when he would attack me (amongst others), then do as already charged and modify his posts to appear as the innocent party. It's a shame I never got to read him on ballet - I'd have warmly welcomed his knowledge.

Turning to the matter of my own disappearance (not my first, as many will remember), I'm afraid it was entirely Saul related.

I didn't have a problem with Saul's childish digital daubs, dreary photography and so-so musical ability (such words coming from me, a man of no painting talent, no expertise with a camera and bugger all musical knowledge). I even found his undying championship of Mendelssohn as king among all composers faintly endearing. What riled me was his inappropriate evangelical zeal ('inappropriate' in as much as this is a classical music forum, not one set up for the in-depth study of the Torah) and the way this intruded on almost every thread in which he posted.

In the end, I chose to leave rather than continue to be among those who were raining down a hail of derision upon his poor, deluded virtual self. Besides which, such a violent reaction to Saul's posting was making me feel bad about myself, and starting to make anti-Semitism look attractive. Once that point was reached, I knew it was high time for some time out ...
