Aye; I had this in mind, but I understand if timing is infelicitous, mon vieux.

I'll try to come. We'll have to play it by ear.

(why am I quoting this? I forgot why....)

I'm in Massachusetts, where I live. Wasn't Texas fun? And if not, why not? That's a weighty question, so let's defer that for now. My dad is well. We watched a movie from his huge collection of bargain basement DVDs. We also looked at old photos he took in January, 1946 in Danzig (now Gdansk).

His Victory ship was delivering horses, mules, cattle, and fertilizer to Polish farmers (per the Marshall Plan). The idea was to help with the planting so Poles wouldn't starve. I was unaware that Stalin permitted aid to Poland (he turned it down for the Soviet Union) until my father told me what he'd been doing.

Speaking of Chat, a guy on the internet says:

"The RCA Tube Manual is possibly the greatest book ever written."

How, I'm trying to wonder, is a greatest book possible?

      He also says:

"The Mullard Tube Substitution book is nice to cuddle up with on a cold dark night."

I don't think there's any question about that but really, the RCA quote is hard to fathom.

Whereas Langford-Smith's Radiotron Designer's Handbook (4th ed.) - all 1482 pages of it - now that is a contender.   ;)

Soooo do you think that it isn't possible for the RCA to be the greatest book ever but it is possible for the Radiotron Designer's Handbook to be?

That, I think, is entirely orthogonal to Chat! It's........a puzzlement.

     You're not playing fair.

That "World Cup" thread could read "Drying Paint" or "Toenail Clippings" and it would still get the same amount of attention from me.

The World Cup is the most solid-state thing I've ever seen. It's the Polytone Mini Brute of sports.

I do. I have a Polytone and it's a great little amp, but it has one minor design flaw. The location of the on/off toggle switch is too exposed and is easily damaged on the way to a gig.

     You can't beat optimism.

(Well, you can, really, but why be downbeat?)

Looking up a phone videos of people using Microsoft Sam to prank call people- the best I've seen so far might just be this one (a prank call to a bakery):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7kE1gcW-8c

The whole video is worth watching, but the first minute- WOW!!!  :o
"Do you sell swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh?"
"If I don't get swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh I will die. swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh is great. swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh is the best thing ever invented. I need swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh now. Do you sell swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh?"

And:
"My rofl copter goes swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh"

And:
when he is transferred at 7:54- "Good afternoon, this is..."
"Will you be my friend?"

(if you type "soi" into Microsoft Sam, you get that swwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhh sound)
