Hi,

I am looking for great recordings of the Mendelssohn Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14 and Variations Serieuses Op. 54

For the Rondo Capriccioso, i already have the Perrahia, Thibaudet and Pletnev versions. Really like the Perrahia ones, as its played so simply but beautifully.

And the Variation Serieuses, i do have the Perrahia, Brendel, Thibaudet and De Larrocha ones.

Looking for other great alternatives to what i already have.

Thanks

Don

Judging from the lack of response, maybe you have all the great recordings of those pieces. :D

Regarding the Rondo opus 14 and, in special, the Variations serieuses opus 54, I suggest the remarkable recording of Nikita Magaloff. The CD includes other major works, such as the Prelude and Fugue opus 35/5 and 10 of the most interesting Romances sans paroles.

This CD was recorded in 1988.

Thanks Val for the recommendation. Sounds interesting.

Sergei Babayan recorded a wonderful set of the Lieder Ohne Worte on the Discover International label which has sadly been discountinued by DI. This is a pity as this is sublime playing. It also includes some wonderful Liszt transcriptions of Schubert songs. If you can find it 2nd hand then snap it up.

Thanks for mentioning this!  Babayan is one of my favorite "unheard of" pianists, and I will definitely seek this out.
