I wish you'd given them away to me  :)

Which Tennstedt do you like Jay?  I picked up 1 and 4 on the weekend.  1 does very little for me, and while 4 sounded better on a first listen, it lagged behind Szell and HvK/1979 IMO.  There is a recommendation for a live Tennstedt 1st a few pages back though.
If only you lived here, Russell. That's my favorite way to cull, just give things away. You never know who's gonna fall in love with what. I've given away all of my Rattle Mahler, too. I got them and the Boulez very cheap, on bmgmusic.com, so I'm not out any money to speak of. And wouldn't you really rather get a CD than a card for your birthday?

I like all of Tennstedt's Mahler. I have the whole set. My favorites are probably 5 and 9, though 3 is very good, too. The only one I don't like *that much* is 4.

I give away the odd CD here and there too, although when it comes to classical there's not much point with any of my family or friends.  I do have one friend who loves classical, and has heard little of it, but I'm reluctant to give him performances I have deemed "unworthy"  :)

I didn't think it likely that I'd ever find a recording of the 5th that I prefer to Handleys account with the RLSO but I think I have a winner.

(BTW why on earth is the Cleveland Orchestra moving to Miami  ???  More sunshine?)

I would like to hear a straight answer as well.  I have always thought only professional basket teams and football teams move around.

Maybe they are a marching band now?  ;D

What you ought to do, Stuart, is stop spending money on CDs temporarily, and buy that SACD player you've been talking about. You've probably got the world's largest unplayed SACD collection by now.

I think my CD shopping spree should end by end of June when all interesting sales at MDT are over.  My first SACD player by end of this year is highly likely.

George Szell will be turning over in his grave when the proud Cleveland Orchestra he built up ends up in FL ...

Bill,

Just out of curiosity, how many hours do you listen to vinyl a week on average?

My answer was "straight." The orchestra isn't moving to Florida but they do have a three week residency in Miami during winter.

Never thought about it, Stuart.  Just started listening again this summer after buying a turntable.  I mix cds and vinyl so hard to get a bearing.  I probably listen to one, possibly two pieces each day.  However, my listening of it is increasing a bit as I am purchasing more in the classical genre.  Said I was going to stay away from it and just stick to jazz soundtracks, but that lasted about as long as my New Year's resolutions, whatever they were. :)

To have the Cleveland Orchestra moving to FL for good is like the BPO relocating to some classical music desert in Europe ...

Disc.4.

That is the 4-CD set?  If so, I have the set too.  I have not played the set in a few years.
