#540
Woldemar Bargiel

Complete Piano trios Volume I.

No.2 opus 20 in E flat major.
No.3 opus 37 in B flat major.

Trio Parnassus.

And after gorgeous Grechaninov comes hard on his heels, this fabulous music from a unknown master like Bargiel.
Also a MDG recording of really high quality. The Trio Parnassus makes a devastating entrance, by their excellent rendering of two highly romantic works. Never had a meeting with this composer, but am glad that I met him by chance, lucky me I would say.
Highly detailed with beautiful little pearls streaming from the strings, and a piano part that really has something to say. Just listen to the second movement from opus 20, and you will be overwhelmed in a instant, no doubt about that. Two volumes I have bought from this composer, but I would not mind if it would be 20 volumes with these quality works. He can stand amidst his fellow composers without a grain of shame, rather he could put them to shame.

Harry, your reviews are so enthusiastic and passionate they make me want to buy (or at least listen to) everything you present!

Well that's good isnt it!
I am passionate about music, and these last composers I had in my player are really quite beautiful.

I'll certainly try them.

Robert Fuchs.

Complete SQ Volume II.

Opus 106 in A major.
Opus 71 in C major.

Minguet Quartet.

Another great composer that came out of the pile of MDG's I bought a while ago. These SQ by no way are under the mark of lets say Brahms, they are certainly as good, if in some cases not better structured. A bold thing to say, well no, just listen to the second movement of the opus 106, and you again notice how structured and inventive a composer like Fuchs was.
Highly melodic, and very lucid in the things he wants to express, for lovers of this music he will almost certainly incite enthusiasm beyond what was thought possible. Dreamlike, romantic and emotional music, which did the trick for me. So invite yourself to a dose of this composer and let me know what you think.
The recording is extremely good. And the Minguet Quartet is of a very high standard, a pearl in the crown of MDG.

Michael Haydn

20 Symphonies.

No. 18 in C major.
No. 25 in G major.

Divertimento in G major.

Slovak Chamber Orchestra/Bohdan Warchal.

Well I grow into these performances. Although I have to get used to the low powered interpretations, they definitively have what it takes to understand Michael Haydn.
Very inventive, by no means less then Joseph, and a colorful instrumentation especially for the brass, makes it a highly enjoyable experience. The orchestra is good, but has a tendency to play over some rather nice details, steamwaltzing so to say.
Apart from that, its good for me. Sound is oke too!
Tomorrow will arrive some additions of which I post already one so you know.

Haffner

Chopin Nocturnes (Moravec)

I'm no less than enthralled by this performance. BEST Morning Wishes To ALL!

You are a very modern man Maciek, that music is far out, as we use to say in the sixties!

Chamber music I opus 18.

Here I go again, Sallinen nonstop. Who said I am not in for modern talking huh?
Marvelous and complex music, with fine rhythmic lines, and funny eerie mind boggling deviations from the main road.
Dang!

I may have to trust you on that one I guess. :)

Doing a little Sallinen, modern too! ;D

Maciek

There are places in the Trois Esquisses Ouvertes by Mion that sound just like some sort of shoot out from the first Star Wars movies - lasers zapping and all!

I've got check out Sallinen one of these days - he's mentioned very often on GMG, so he must be excellent!
