USA - Music Of Nancarrow, Carter, Et Al / Arditti Quartet

Some really interesting works from the mid-20th C. collected here and played extremely well by the Arditti Quartet.  I'm listening right now to one of the longest of them, a work by a composer new to me,  Autumn Rhythm by Jay Alan Yim .

Seeing Karl's Mompou disc, I looked him up.

Yes!  This post is what got me started on Mompou, BTW.

Well, Luke does know all of the obscure composers (and their scores), doesn't he?  :D

Mompou, an obscure composer? Even I have heard of him, and of some of his works too (solo piano stuff, IIRC - long time ago)!

His breadth of knowledge, coupled with his fine taste, is a brilliant resource.

Nav, your knowing a composer doesn't mean he is not obscure! : )

True; but how many obscure composers (GMG obscure) have you seen me mention in these two or three years? :D

An intriguing quartet, isn't it!  I haven't heard the other piece on that CD, so would be interested to know what you think of that, too.

LSO
MTT

Our Karl, listening to Mahler  :o :o :o  Do I hear the hoofbeats of a quartet of horses?

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Smetana, Má Vlast, Berglund, Staatskapelle Dresden. At the beginning of the movement, Berglund's Moldau is already at the flood stage, with a very swift current!
