I'm overwhelmed! Just wanted to have a little contrasting look into this after Tristan, - and it is so gripping and moving, I can't stop. Now I understand why it is so famous.

It is International Womens Day today.  Seems to be a good choice for the occassion.

On the other hand, I am playing this, very nice but lacking a bit of weight on the cello.   :(

Schumann: Davidsbündlertänze / Gieseking / saga LP

Due to some positive recommendations on this site, I picked this one up today & am giving it a listen ... The cover says the recording is from the early 50s, but I´ll be checking whether there are several Gieseking performances. A very lively, personal and even eccentric performance, sometimes with a bit of the hurried punchyness characteristic of some of his recordings, but definitely one of the most interesting I´ve heard.

Now listening to Disc 09 of this interesting and beautiful box-set. This box is a real treasure trove of great music and performances! :)

Something really lacking in my collection is work by female composers. Does anybody have any recommendations ?

Yes! Louise Farrenc! Fabulous stuff! Absolutely underrated.

Actually, anything from the CPO series is pretty good. Clara Schumann and Amy Beach come to mind as well. And then finally, this symphony by Alice Mary Smith:
