Schuman's music is growing on me.  I remember when I first got the box a couple of years ago, I had a hard time with the music.  But anyways, the playing is great.  I still need to dive into his music more, as I believe this may be my first listen to this symphony, or if not the first, second time with the first being a couple of years ago.

Willoughby earl of Itacarius

Antonin Dvorak.

String Quintet No. 1 in A minor, opus. 1, & 3 in E flat major, opus 97.

These well known pieces keep strewing their magic over you when listened too. Dvorak had a keen ear for melody, and in these works they are abundant. Every movement is a treasure, certainly in such good performances. I enjoyed the works, after all Dvorak is one of my top composers at all.

So, what did you think of it overall, once it finished, John?

A little grander than I generally like my Haydn (or Mozart), but still, a plenitude of good vibes.

The Fifth is such a beautiful work, and the interpretation is spot on.

Now onto the 6th from the same set.  (But probably should listen to something happy, as the paper I am writing is depressing)

Willoughby earl of Itacarius

Bohuslav Martinu.

Elegy for Violin and Piano. (1909) H. 3.
Concerto for Violin and Piano. (1910) H. 13.
Sonata in C major for Violin and Piano. (1919) H. 120.

I am attached to these pieces, as I am in general to this composer. His chamber works have a intensity that is quite haunting and captivating at the same time. The pieces are well presented in their ferocity, but sweetness claims its due too. Perfect music in perfect performances and good sound.
