01) Fruhlings ruckkehr.
02) In der Walpurgisnacht.

A wonderful work, well played and recorded. See review,8-9-2010 for more details.

Willoughby earl of Itacarius

Symphony No. 10, opus 213 in F minor, "Zur Herbstzeit".

01) Eindrucke und empfindungen.
02) Gespenster Reigen.
03) Elegie.
04) Die jagd der Menschen ( Auszug; Rast; Jagd; Hallali; Ruchkehr)

Both the 8th and 10th Symphony belong to my favourites Raff wrote. He seems to have settled a little bit more in sustaining a melody for longer than 30 seconds, its still brimful with ideas, but the working out is more elaborate as with his other works in this box. The performance of the 10th is gorgeous, with a really beautiful Elegy as third movement. See also review from 8-9-2010.

My first Dvorak recording of any kind (got it even before the 9th, although I knew the 9th). Very spirited performances and still my personal benchmark in the music.

Ilaria, Neal - do you know the Harnoncourt recording? It's a personal favourite of mine, outstanding performances. One of my favourite cds! :)

Symphony 0. (1956-57), in four movements.

See review 19-3-2012. It shows what Schnittke is able to do. A work that charms and coaxes. Well written and performed.

I agree, it's an absolutely beautiful, gorgeous recording; one of the best versions of the Slavonic Dances I've ever heard. Kubelik really had the magical touch for Dvorak's music.

I know the Harnoncourt, it's in my wish list :) Really look forward to getting it, I read excellent reviews about this set.

I have heard that one (though I don't own it). It is a bit lighter and transparent and quite a nice version. I think stylistically, Kubelik has that extra edge of folksieness (especially in the way he emphasizes certain beats or rhythms), but there are numerous versions of this one that I like (of those I have heard).

Glad you like the Harnoncourt set too, Neal. I really can't find anything to fault with that recording really. :) The Kubelik is great also though, I agree. I need to re-listen to that recording soon. :)
