How is Fischer in Mahler? I love his Brahms!
The first half of life is spent in longing for the second, the second half in regretting the first.

Quite good, thoughtful, with tension and energy, but a bit too controlled or "planned" sometimes, for my taste. Now and then I am missing the innocent, spontaneous, joyful relishing of the melodic lines, letting go, like singing along. But I am enjoying the performance.

Awesome piece, and the performance is excellent, too.

Another one of my favourites. Seems that I am almost the only one to enjoy this one. But I guess between the Mahler and Shostakovich Symphonies this composer is not flashy enough. Well I keep up the flag on my own then. :)
I wrote extensively about this composer already and his worth and place in the musical establishment, so I will refrain from that now. Its wandering off in my collection after this, probably not to be played again in my life time. But that's also something I got used too!

BERLIOZ:      Symphonie Fantastique                  / Montreal Orchestra, Charles Dutoit

A very decent version. The orchestra is good, the direction very attentive to the instrumental details. But it is very impersonal. After the versions of Munch, Markevitch, Beecham, Paray, Cluytens, Argenta, this one seems pale.

Symphony No 3 in C major, "Singuliere"

Totally surprised by this performance. It is so delicately done, and the textures are kept so open, that Dausgaard turns it into a magical experience. The second movement with four movement changes reads like a open book, with all the details at the right place, never a dynamic overblown or an idea overstated, but perfectly in balance. The strings sound gorgeous, ever so delicately touching the instrument. Tempi are all exquisitely chosen, truly a performance to add, even if you have already some very good performances of it!

Play of the Elves, tone painting for large orchestra.

Here I can apply the same praise, a bit more big boned, but still this almost Mendelssohnnian lightness, the Elves dancing merrily around. Sound throughout is of Chandos quality. Excellent.

Could not resist, so I played from this set also the 4th Symphony, "Naive" in E flat major, and heap the same praise on it as the 3th. Its always nice when nothing is expected, and it turns out better as expected. The fourth movement especially is a invigorating one. The violins sound, almost reminds me of what Karajan use to do to them, this almost golden very suave statement. Gorgeous.

I heard the Capriccio and Movements for the first time last week. Loved both (although apparently the musical langauge of Movements can do obscene things to some heads, so you be careful Ilaria  ;D )
